Inspired by danny m I am wondering if you can get round whilatter blue with a double bike trailer?
Anyone ridden it and can comment on its width and roughness?
Did the greens at glentress with it earlier in the year and it was fine.
If it did turn to sh1t then i could just use the fire road.
I'd be wary of the boardwalk bridges, might be too easy to drop a wheel.
I reckon taking it really ,really easy it’ll be ok.
Couple of tight corners here & there.
I saw someone riding a unicycle on it last time I was there.
They have now rebranded the original Whinlatter loop as a green I think...
I'm not so sure ..the start of the blue is singletrack width very twisty and used by a lot of " capable " riders as a warm up ..suddenly coming upon a double width buggy might not only put those riders in danger ..but more importantly from your point of view ..your kids too..
I wouldn't risk it ..
Ok thanks. May just take the eldest on his own bike with no tralier.
Anyone else going with you that could act as a rear gunner?
I'd be tempted to prioritise your family riding on the blue against "pretty capable riders" who could frankly piss off and ride something else. Or at least slow down and give you space if they do happen across you.
You could do the new ‘gorse’ route- 10km of forest road type riding, but still hilly- would be a good work out with the trailer! The berms and ‘jumps’ on sections of the blue would be tricky and there are some narrow bits where I don’t think a double trailer would fit.
I've never found Whinlatter that busy to be worried about others catching and i thought that the red/blue only followed the same trail for about 50-100m at the start and then it branched off, but i've never done the whole blue to be honest.
I've thought similar to yourself and wondered about riding up to the mid fireroad on the southside loop and doing that descent. Its wide and completly roll-able with no drops. You can then skip the very short bit through the woods at the end and cut through the car park back onto the main path.
Yeah will scope it out the eldest and see about taking everyone else. We are staying in keswick so not to far to go.
Found some headcam footage of it and it looks wide enough(on the 3 min edit).
Will investigate the green too.
I take it you mean a double width bike trailer? I'd say a definate no for that one 🤔
Yeah double width.
May just blast round with no kids in too:)
As I said, the boardwalk isn't very wide, I'd be surprised if it's wide enough for a double trailer.
@thegeneralist ..
I never said they were "pretty"..most of them are hairy arsed ..but before offering an opinion I'm assuming you know the blue trail at Whinlatter?
