A friend is wanting to walk one of the Yorkshire 3 peaks in January.
Which one holds up better in wet conditions?
They are all fine I'd say, but the boggy bit between Pen-Y-Ghent and Ingleborough might be a mess.
I'd say the best walk would be from Clapham Village, through Trow Gill, around Gaping Gill and up Ingleborough, taking the path back on the far side of the stream back to Clapham.
I'd avoid Pen-Y-Ghent just becuase the scramble up to the top can be a bit lousy in the cold Weather, especially if it freezes.
Wernside is a bit dull really.
I guess that leaves ingleborough then...
The above linked route is a good call

This too - apart from the view of the viaduct. It's just a series of big (man-made) steps and exposed geotextile membrane.
I did a very similar walk to Johndoh's suggestion in the summer. Do that
too busy around 3 peaks.
nine standards rig or somewhere in the howgill.
it's oh so quiet...... ;o)

This one. If it is icy you'll need to take care on the steps on Little Ingleborough and a short section just before the top, but otherwise straightforward. I'd probably loop back via the Horton path and across the pavements to meet Long Lane.
I doubt it will be that busy in January.

If it is totally frozen, or you like a bit of blanket bog.
PenyGhent is decent. The only difficulties I've had on the main tourist route are when it has been banked out with snow.
I've just been up Pen Y Ghent this morning, it's my regular exercise (although I do the others as well), short and sweet up the steep side, that would get my vote (if you want a challenge, I've never broken the 40mins barrier from the primary school. My fastest is 40mins38secs fast walking pace no stops). 2nd would be Ingleborough from the Old Hill Inn, again shortish and steep near the end (50mins). That^ route from Clapham is very nice also. A good longer walk taking in 2 of the 3 is ribblehead - whernside - Old hill Inn - ingleborough - simon fell - park fell - ribblehead. will take you between 4.5 - 6 hours.
The route johndoh suggested is a cracker.
Another good one is Helwith Bridge - Pen-y-ghent - Hull Pot - cafe or pub in Horton - back to Helwith along the river.
If you want peace and quiet, Great Whernside from Nidderdale is rarely busy.
Ingleborough - because that was my house team at school and we used to win everything, every year. (and we were Blue also)
Another vote for johndoh's suggestion.
But bear in mind the route on Walking Englishman is wrong - they take the wrong route after reaching the summit! They head west (incorrectly) to Ingleton, and I think the route should head east towards Sulber and then down to Long Scar and onwards to Clapham.
