My knees are getting hammered with DIY tasks. I have some great heavy duty plastic & foam strap on knee pads, but never seem to have them on when needed. What workwear trousers are worth looking at? They MUST have knee pad inserts (i'd always have them in), any come in 3/4 zips for long shorts?

Screwfix is good for cheap workwear.

Obvs, I have to use these daily for a living, so mine tend to cost upwards of £60...for Engelbert Strauss, Snickers, Bläklader or the likes. My troons nearly always have bottom opening inserts (yeah, yeah) as top opening ones fill with dust. My knee-pads alone cost nearly £40! 😯 I'm sure you probably don't want to spend this kind of money, so the Site range from Screwfix is reasonable value and lasts quite well. Also, you might want to avoid those ones with the flappy pockets at the front (though this is almost impossible these days) as they can be a pain in the arse.

There are (literally) hundreds of online sellers for safety wear on ebay and Amazon too.

Asda have some cheap ones at the moment and they are better than the cheapest site screwfix ones.

I use Snickers, good sizing and tough but not heavy cloth. As above Site and Mascot are both good mid-range options.

Cheaper ones will usually wear through the knees quicker.

You don't need to buy the expensive knee pads, which will be separate to the trousers, as most are a similar size and you can cut them down if needed. You need to take the pads out for washing.

Top loader and pouch pockets work well for me, just personal taste and/or job specific.

Not sure about zip offs or short legs.

I use motorbike jeans with built in knee protectors, they can be a bit warm sometimes but they're seriously tough.

Another vote for Snickers - not super cheap, but they last.

Dewalt make some decent troos too

I got some Apache ones for about £30. I've nothing to compare them to but they've been good so far.
