My wife would like one of those bands or watches that measures steps, distance run, swum etc.
She doesn't need anything extremely fancy but swims most lunch times so it needs to be waterproof.
No need for GPS or anything like that.
She's had two UP bands (by Jawbone) before and both broke just outside of warranty so I'd like to avoid them.
3 that have caught my eye are:

Fitbit Blaze - mixed feelings having read some reviews
iWatch - it's fine. We'll choose one child to go to uni ...
Actually, the iWatch 3 is the one I'd love first hand (no pun intended) opinions on.
What do you recommend?
Thanks
Have a 2&3 iWatch - cracking bits of kit!
Only upgraded tot he 3 so I can leave the phone at home more.
Hiya.
The current Fitbit Blaze isn't waterproof.
I've left mine on in the shower and once whilst swimming, but I wouldn't recommend risking it.
There's a new waterproof one due out soon.
Love mine, btw.
Maybe Fitbit Flex 2 for a basic waterproof one?
I have a Garmin Vivosmart HR+ but it might be a bit too chunky for smaller wrists, and has features it doesn't sound like your wife will use. I don't think their cheaper models are fully waterproof.
Thanks.
HammyUK.
Cellular isn't an option for us. Does that defeat the point of the watch or would you still recommend one?
My wife has the Garmin Vivo Active HR - it's a bit chunky but the main thing is it's waterproof and is one of the only trackers that will do swimming.
We've been through about 6 Jawbone Up24's - absolute pants
If you're still thinking about selling a child the Garmin Fenix 5S would be a good option, too.
I asked this a few weeks ago as I was getting my wife one for her birthday. Got her the fitbit Alta HR. She's very happy with it, lasts a week before needing charged.
Ah just realised you need a waterproof one, this isn't.
We're coming up to the end of half term. The wife's been away and I've been home with 2 children. All 3 of us have had the flu so I'm considering giving both away mogrim!
I think that if the band / watch is getting close to £200, I'd bite the bullet and just go for an iWatch.
Yes Gary. Waterproof is an absolute must. Gym on a Wednesday, pilates on a Tuesday but swimming almost every lunchtime.
The Garmin looks great fossy. Just on the cusp of me getting the iWatch though.
The alternative is the Flex2. Cheap and cheerful.
Any Garmin Vivosmart HR+ users?
Guess she needs to do some deciding on features she wants.
Hmmm.
Doesn't defeat the object at all - like I said, I only swapped as I am deliberatley leaving the phone at home to spend less time on it and also it causes issues with my eyes/blue light.
If it wasn't for that I'd still have the iW2 on my wrist instead of it being in its box on the shelf.
Works great for workouts, swimming - tracks lengths, distance, tracking moevements, etc for a couple days at a time without issue.
Literally 2s to put on charge unlike the garmins/fitbits with a clip, etc.
Love the fact that there are as many straps and covers as you want for it as well so you can have a different watch for day/night.
Another vote for the vivoactive hr.
Great watch and I just got a brand new one on warranty replacement from Garmin.
I'm tempted to sell it but only to upgrade to a full on multi-sports watch.
Still in it's box with screen protector on...
To be honest I don't expect it to sell and I'm not bothered really because in reality it does all I want/need and more and it's more discrete than the big watches!
Any Garmin Vivosmart HR+ users?
Good for running and daily activity tracking. Can do GPS and heart rate for other activities but doesn't include specific tracking modes for them. Battery life is good - I charge mine every 5 days or so unless I'm using the GPS a lot.
Garmin connect doesn't have the best interface but there's a lot of data in there if you want it.
It also has some minor smart watch stuff, notifications and music controls.
Downsides are it's kind of ugly and doesn't always sit comfortably under a shirt cuff as it's quite thick.
Thanks Kelron.
She rarely wears anything long sleeved.
It seems to include info like distance moved (run, swam etc), calories and heart rate. Seems to be what she's after.
Cheers Hammy - could be an expensive December!
Thanks all. Plenty to think about.
Garmin vivofit 2 user here.
Small, light, comfy (I never take it off), completely waterproof and the battery lasts over a year.
Only measures steps and sleep though, so may not have enough features for some.
I have a Vivoactive HR, agree with kelron's post. No idea what it's like for swimming, I've never understood why people enjoy swimming. The Garmin software isn't particularly useful for me, but will upload data to Strava.
"I've never understood why people enjoy swimming"
Nor me. I enjoy bombing in the deep end and working on my front flips off the blocks. Little else unless there are waves involved.
Have a look at the TomTom range.
I've got a Nokia Steel watch. Rebranded Withings watch after Nokia bought them. Came free with the phone. Does walk, run, swim and sleep, and tells the time. That's it. Waterproof to 50m. Button cell battery so lasts ages and no charging required. Around £100. Or there's a more expensive one with a HR monitor but that needs charging.
and also it causes issues with my eyes/blue light.
I believe it’s possible to alter the display for a warmer colour with less blue in the spectrum.
I have a Flex 2. Very basic, but you can use a phone to look at the data. Comfy, light and lasts about a week on a charge. Would recommend.
Done that AND have an ocular filter screen protector on the CZ - blepharitis, keratitis and a nice cocktail of meds that aggravate them means it makes little difference.
The iW3 stops it as means I don't have it with me to use as much 😀
Calls, HR, music and everything else is taken care of by the watch so even if it goes on charge overnight because I've hammered the battery - I don't mind.
Usually it doesn't and 20 mins first thing and its full again anyway.
