evening...
our washing machine is slightly smelly and keeps leaving cruddy limescale marks on our clothes. mrs vader is getting quite vexed as we have used the usual dr whatsit stuff and the bits you can get from tesco...
so what do people use????
Cheers

I also found that if you take out the powder drawer thing it was full of gunk/crap/scale inside the machine, and boiling water, bleach and some elbow grease was required. Then hottest wash san's powder or clothes a couple of times.

none of the gunk is in the powder drawer (hmm got mrs vader on spell check next to me), it all seems to be in the drum and gets deposited on the clothes. will try the bio powder and hot wash tomorrow... ta

The smell is probably build up of washing powder. White wine vinegar is what you need, use it every month to clean the machine:

Wipe down the seal with white wine vinegar, put a little in all the orifices and half a cup in the drum and stick it on a 95 wash - will completely transform it.

May have to do it a couple of times depending how good or bad it is .

I'd recommend the first time you do this - dont put any clothes / tea towels in. You'd just be horrified at the slimy gunk that comes out on said towels!

#Edit - I'm talking about the bio & powder & hot idea.

You just need something which is a good solvent for congealed washing powder - White wine vinegar seems to be the best - google 'Cleaning a washing machine' and it seems to be the #1 recommendation.

The little ladies washing machine smells kinda damp and was making my clothes smell funny. I took googles advice and put on a boil wash with distilled vinegar, it didn't help that much so I done it again a week later and now leave the door open throughout the day. It smells a lot better but think I'm gonna try again with another boil wash with bleach.

Nice, i'll just put a wee bit in. She thinks it smells fine, but i definitely smell a damp aroma coming from the machine and my clothes. Maybe she's just used to the foost!

Didn't have to resort to bleach in the end. Left washing machine door and powder drawer open for a few days after last vinegar wash...clothes now comes out smelling of roses (or black diamond and lilly...WTF) 😛

you need to do a service wash - hot wash with nothing in (no powder or anything) once a month.

5ml of bleach. Normal washing powder. 90 degree wash. Once a month. Done.
