Tuboflard (tub of lard) always reads as turbo-flard in my head.
Which usernames always catch you out?
I struggled with ‘My Heads Ashed’ until I finally twigged.
I always read cha****ng instead of chakaping, and what is presumably sus epic as suse pic.
Is fathomer "fat homer" or someone who can fathom things out?
Oddly enough I was thinking this a couple of days ago when it suddenly clicked, after seeing him (or maybe her) on here for years, that Turbo Flard is in fact Tub of Lard.
And I have no idea how macruisekeen is pronounced. Or even spelled it would appear
debz
Isn't sadex punk a sad exPunk?
debz? I'm now wondering if that's dezb, or debz?
Most people say mine ?
Where are the emojis when we need them… 😉
ElShimano
I’m glad to have caused so much confusion 🙂
Alex Facepalm
Another guilty of reading Tasha's name badly for ages!
Most people say mine
Sorry Tasha.
I read it as ass hat......

Tired will always be tired not TI Red
Which is it, Mildred or mild red.
Isn’t sadex punk a sad exPunk?
you are correct 🙂
i think TJ used to read it as sadie spunk 😀
He's long gone now, but WWASWAS used to confuse the **** out of me. I'd joined the forum too late to know that it was a reference to his old username (Weekend Worrier) from an earlier incarnation of STW. Hence he was now WW, As Was.
In my head it sounded something like Wi-Woz-Woz.
Ahsat is a woman? Well I never got that, and it will likely change the context I understand her posts in future, (although I don't have the memory of forum history to point to specific instances)
The understanding of which also makes me think of Gnusmas, didn't click with that reversed word until explained either..
peterfile...
I blame posters for not selectively and helpfully capitalising their complex user names...
Someone once labelled me as BadlyWeirdDog. I don't know if it was a typo or a gentle dig - I suspect the latter - but I now consciously misread my own user name. Thanks for that 🙂
Sorry for the confusion, and capitalizing would have helped, but sc-xc is right, Sus Epic. I live in Sussex and ride an epic. I guess those regular epic Evo threads have limited readership 😉
On the backwards names, Sirromj was one that didn't make sense, until it dawned on me a few days ago that my alternative forum name could be sirromjs
Also le metal mark is one I have to read twice for let me talk to mark
Most of the above!
I also kept reading the gaza thread as Gazza, and wondered what he'd got up to this time!
And I have no idea how macruisekeen is pronounced.
Just Marcus Ericsson in my head. I like to imagine there's an ex-F1 driver on the forum.

A few of us are of a particular STW vintage - I created this account on a Nokia 95 on a ferry on the way to Shetland in 2010. STW's password recovery / reset was on the fritz and I couldn't log into my old account so had to create a new one to get back on the forum.
I was watching my pint slide around the table and reading the Third Policeman so Sgt MacCruiskeen it seemed a suitable source for forum handle. However - logins created around that date refused to show, and continue to refuse to show capitals on forum itself even though the login I created was MacCruiskeen. Theres a swathe of all lower case forums that must have been created around this time. Occasionally I get certain notifications from STW as MacCruiskeen so the data is there somewhere, it just doesnt display
Did there used to be (perhaps still is) two quite prolific posters called simonfbarnes and simondbarnes?
chakaping....chakaping
chakaping let me rock you let me rock you chakaping, let me rock you it's all I wanna do, chakaping let me rock you let me rock you chakaping, let me rock you cuz I feel for you...
Etc.
McCruisyKen
Not strictly 'incorrectly', but I always read 'Gnusmas' as Samsung – my brain automatically flips it to the word I recognise.
Did there used to be (perhaps still is) two quite prolific posters called simonfbarnes and simondbarnes
Absolutely. SimonDBarnes is still posting and active, SimonFBarnes (RIP) used to lead rides and take a lot of photos with bogtrotters group over by the Lakes.
There are far far too many 'Stu' names on the forum, last time I counted there were at least 5 maybe more. I always get them confused and I'm always slightly surprised if two different Stu's appear on the same thread.
Also, Mid File Crashes, don't ask me why, I've no idea
Oh heck – that’s a put a downer on the thread. How sad.
. @finbar - December 2020 he passed away but he'd been unwell for a while before that following a heart attack (and recovery) followed by a second, much more serious heart attack.

"macruisekee" always reads as "McCruising"... Like a generic budget boat based holiday.
I though "asshat" was simply being refreshingly upfront about their self-image. Every day school day etc.
globalti is clearly a fan of takeaway, but why it must be glowing I have no idea.
Cougar is not a cougar. Confusing.
I always hear Cougar as Cog Wire, That's only because of the American inability to pronounce jaguar correctly.
adjustablewench - my brain thinks it is adjustable wRench
ampthill - I read ant hill every time
chakaping and maccruiskeen I genuinely read as chap-a-king and mac-cruisin' until this thread.
The real question though is, why matt_outandabout referenced as M_OAB and not M_OAA?
Cougar is not a cougar. Confusing.
Well, you say that, but...
I always hear Cougar as Cog Wire

Scotroutes + brain = Socrates
If I had a pound for everyone that calls me Northwood I’d have at least three pounds. Which isn’t a lot but it’s still surprising that it’s more than one.
Never mind that, the real issue is the fact there's you, Northwind, and some other 3rd rate tribute act, TheNorthwind on here
Some of these responses to my username are hilarious.
Ahsat is a woman? Well I never got that, and it will likely change the context I understand her posts in future
Woman on STW shocker! Yes I probably do come at things from another perspective at times as a result
I’m dyslexic, so the reversed name is somewhat a play on how my head feels at times.

I'm not sure if theres a confusing array of people called 'nick' on the forum or only two and I'm just confused.
Woman on STW shocker!
For some reason, a woman on STW is considered incredibly exotic by most. Like dragons.
Must admit, I had also assumed you were a guy calling yourself "arsehat" though! I mean, look at my name, we are mostly children on here. Lol

See also, Jo(h)ns and Drs.

That was a nice thread, thank you for digging it out. 2020 – God, time feels compressed since Covid.
Back to silly forum names…!
And you posted on it 🙂
^^ Lol 😀
Hmmm... the actual login name doesn't seem to be case sensitive, but the display name does, I think.
I vaguely remember that the two used to be the same, so if I inadvertently logged in as badlywireddog, it showed like that in the forum, but it may just me being deluded.
but it may just me being deluded.
no Deluded is the other guy
for a time no matter how you typed your display name when you created an a account it only displays all lowercase but the site clearly seems to remember any capitulation in in some instances has displayed it with capitals in the accounts section but doesn’t display it on the forum
so if I inadvertently logged in as badlywireddog
there was a period when folk could change their display name for their account completely l, including using other forum users names as their display name. Much to the hair-pulling frustration of the mods and a bit of banhammer swinging
