I am looking to buy a sit on top two man Kayak.
I am a beginner but would like something decent. The best option I have seen is the Ocean Malibu Two Duo. Do you have any other suggestions? It would just be used for lochs and slow moving water. No need for much storage.
Thanks
Craig

Not wanting to throw a spanner in the works straight away as there are some good sit on tops available and I'm sure someone with more experience of them will be along to answer the question but have you completely discounted the idea of a Canadian canoe?

For two people I think they offer a more practical solution. They're more comfortable due to the option of being able to alter your position, would be ideal on lochs and although you said you don't need much storage it's nice to be able to just chuck stuff in the boat and not have to think too much about it.

Whatever Gumtree can offer...
They are a 'bank of plastic' - after first owner, they hold value well. Until you know what you enjoy and what you will use it for more, I would buy a cheaper second hand one.

I echo the thoughts about Open/Canadian Canoe, apart from SoT's offer more beginner friendly re-entry and self-rescue than an open canoe.

would just be used for lochs and slow moving water.

Any moving water needs awareness and knowledge - even small water can have some huge power behind, and many WW paddlers make it look easy. I can show you a corner on the Tay that looks timid and slow - yet is lethal and far more dangerous that the 'big' rapid a few minutes away, with head high standing waves....
Both the above are sorted with a days training.

(And enjoy, it is addictive...)

The Malibu 2 is an old design with two flaws - 1, it doesn't have a storage area in the rear as it was originally designed to stack. 2, its priced in dollars (for the retailer to buy) so its very expensive right now.

If looking for a SOT I would go for a Feelfree Gemini Sport or a Wavesport/perception Gemini or perhaps an RTM Ocean Duo.

The Feelfree has the option of moving the seat to the middle meaning 1 person can paddle easily.

Opens (canadian style canoes) are fantastic but not self draining meaning they are not safe on the sea or large bodies of water unless fitted with additional bouyancy and paddled by competent paddlers. They are also very difficult to solo till you know what you're doing!

we have one of the tootega Pulse 120s (and a couple of the one mans)

got no issues - does the job on the thames in summer. Light enough; I can lift and manoeuvre it myself.

Can get two small ones, and the large one on the top of a passat. Albeit we don't go that far!

We had the feel free corona. It was a double, but also had a seat in the centre so could be paddled solo - I used to fish from it occasionally. It has a wheel in the keel, which helped with moving it about and it would take a lot of weight. It was a good sturdy bit of kit, but took some man handling because of its heft.

Edit - as a very casual paddler, I wouldn't trust myself or anyone else I took with me in an open canoe. SOTs are just so much more stable and don't sink when capsized, as open canoes can.
