A little music to brighten up your day.
The Brass Band is a bit of Christmas tradition here in Britain due, in part, to the Salvation Army ensembles that play on street corners. But which do you prefer in this instance: Bach's Toccata & Fugue played on brass, or saxophone?
Enjoy.
The sax sounds closer to the original organ, as they are both reeded. So here, I prefer it.
But it's horses for courses, there are lots of pieces where brass is better.
(I also dispute the importance of the Sally Army to brass bands, except in the soft south)
The Saxophone is the devils instrument and therefor my preference
In this particular instance, brass by a country mile. I haven't seen any of those Tiny Desk videos for ages. There are some great ones.
Oh and Canadian Brass take a bit of beating.
However - if it had been double reeds not single reeds...
Neither prefer the delights of the electric g,tar

Upside down guitar?
Brass bands in folk songs makes for a very emotional and evocative sound, sax works better in jazz and pop/rock music.
And sometimes classical, Rachmaninov uses sax on one of his Symphonic Dances, which is just beautiful.
Proper brass band, I think this is a colliery band, but she has members of the Coldstream Guards band when she tours.
Wonderful sound.
Saxophone, definitely saxophone:
Sax.
Thank you Adolphe Sax 🙂
More sax:
Rahsaan Roland Kirk
This. Just this.
SAX!
Whenever(everytime) my Dad was a bit merry , he'd play drunken Clarence Clemons Sax on his beer bottle.....Ha.silly bugger.
I'm with Hitler on this one. I absolutely despise the saxophone. If Will You comes on the radio it gets turned off. Breaking things will happen otherwise.
Then there's the group Morphine who thought they would get noticed by having a saxophone rather than guitars. I noticed you,I noticed that you were ****ing shit.
I used to give the benefit of the doubt to Darkside but imagine all the saxophone replaced by Gilmour's guitar. I'm hoping one of these mash up people will make it happen.
i quite liked the sax version because of the chap on the left. His sax seemed very different from the rest ( probably not a sax)
However every time I hear a sax it reminds me on a vuvuzela with notes ..which just makes my ears bleed
For your delectation
( probably not a sax)
It is a soprano sax, you are used to seeing mainly tenor saxophones. The guy second from the right is playing a much bigger instrument which is a bass sax- as is the chap on the Too Many Zooz video. The guy on the second left is a tenor sax and on the right an alto sax.
They're all awesome!
The only question I have is why I never saw any of these before I packed up learning the trombone.
All except the vuvuzela!
Which I can play...
a much bigger instrument which is a bass sax
Just for clarification, it is a baritone sax. I used to play one.
I knew exactly what that was going to be before clicking on the link CountZero. Makes me sob like a small child. Something to do with having a miner for a dad I think.
Just for clarification, it is a baritone sax. I used to play one.
I feared it might be.
In our house you get the choice of flute or saxophone to listen to, if it's MCJnr, or just flute if it's LittleMissMC. The neighbours prefer the saxophone after 10am, to be fair.
This morning their pre-school flute practice brought me the delights of the Dam Busters March (him) and The Bear Comes over the [****ing] Mountain [again] from her. Though she did also make a rather frustrated and eventually tearful hash of O Danny Boy as well.
