Hello!

Looking for some advise please due to the quite frankly bewildering array of options.

Birthday present for my (soon to be) 65 year old mother. She’s an iPhone user so reasonably technology literate and she goes off on 3-4 week walking treks in Nepal/Uzbekistan once or twice a year.

She’s thoroughly enjoying activity tracking on her smartphone and step counting. So I think she’d like the step up a smart watch might offer on one of her big walking trips.

Musts:

1) Simple UI.  I don’t think I can handle weekly “how do I” phone calls

2) Decent battery

3) GPS so she can track her walks (possibly optional)

4) Ideally not much more than a couple hundred of our finest pre-Brexit £’s.

Any thoughts? Thank you!!!!!

Not likely to be a popular option here but I'd look at the Apple Watch.  Wife has one that does all the things you describe plus she can accept/reject calls on it (simple gestures like putting your hand over the watchface will reject a call) and loads of other stuff in addition to activity tracking. All the health stuff she is currently tracking on her phone will be retained and added to so she won't be starting from scratch, you can connect a footpod for more accurate step counting on hiking trips.

Worth a look at least, if she already does that stuff on her iphone then it will all likely make sense with minimal 'how to' calls I'd have thought.
