I want some motivation to increase my pace a bit on my commute, so I'm looking for a website (or iPhone app) where I can upload my GPS tracks of my ride and compare them so I can see (any) improvement over time.

Ideally I'd like a nice report like this site: http://utrack.crempa.net/
but with the ability to compare against previous rides (particularly the speed/distance and distance/time graphs)

I've had a quick google and seen http://www.endomondo.com/ http://www.mapmytracks.com/sports/cycling and http://www.mapmyride.com/ but they seem to be about publishing your ride for others to see, or being all serious and developing training plans and what not.

I just want to a fairly simple view where I can see some nice graphs showing that I'm slightly less of a unfit git than I was 6 weeks ago.

Any suggestions?

MapMyTracks is good. I use it a lot and the compare function works well.

Whyphone app is called OutFront.

I use Endomondo but only to record my rides. I'm not really into the tracking my progress thing, but I know it does that too. The associated app is better than others I tried, (Blackberry version for me)

Strava's pretty good. You can set segments and race yourself or make them public and compare your times against other people.

I've got a few good iPhone apps for recording the actual GPS file already: ."MotionX GPS" is excellent, and I often use "OSM Track" as I contribute to OpenStreetMap (and OpenCycleMap).

make them public and compare your times against other people.

Ummmm.... does it give you an option to only compare against young children and the infirm? 😳

Just had a proper play with MapMyTracks.

Works pretty well, has a decent comparison thingy and lets me upload track by just emailing them. Handy.

Thanks DickBarton.

Update

I've ditched MapMyTracks and gone to Endomondo. (Sorry DickBarton)

MMT was good, the website had some nice analysis of rides and had the ability to submit GPX logs by email, which is a nice feature.

BUT.. the website seems really buggy. e.g. showing me a list of 15 activities and summarising it as 4 activities? Not calculating calories from GPX tracks. Reckoning a pootle with a very slow average speed somehow had a faster pace than a ride that covered the same distance in a third of the time.

Plus the iPhone app is annoying. The free version only allows one activity, which you have to manually sync then delete before you can start another one.

So.. I tried Endomondo... the iPhone app works well and the voice coach is a nice touch (calls out a time every 1km) especially as it gets too dark to read my bike computer. It uploads automatically and the free version can store as many activities as you like.

Just wish it supported OpenCycleMap

I've been using Strava for a while now, I suppose the segments feature is the main attraction for them which is pretty great. I'd like something that compares performance over time though, maybe Strava will develop something on that as they're spending a lot on development.

How does Endomondo compare?

If you mean comparing your activities over time then yeah you can generate line and bar graphs showing:

Avg. Heart Rate (bpm) [need ANT+ HRM]
Avg. Pace (min/km)
Avg. Speed (km/h)
Elevation Ascended (m)
Elevation Descended (m)
Total Calories (kcal)
Total Distance (km)
Total Duration
Total Workouts
Weight (kg)

by Day, Week or Month.

Well not really, I'm thinking of some sort of algorithm that scores your performance somehow so you can compare fitness changes over time. Strava does give average power outputs per ride/segment which is of some use.

garmin connect is good but I don't know if you have to have a garmin to use it.

Don't think it has anything like that. I'm just comparing a regular commute so I just look at my average pace (time per 1km) and speed.

I looked at it. You can upload GPX files without specifically needing a Garmin, but that seemed like a pain compared to a dedicated app that uploads them automatically.

No need to apologise...if it doesn't work for you then no point using it...

I use a Garmin (Edge 800) - BTW, Strava is a lot better than Garmin Connect.
