Must be a STW user surely.

As the longstanding boss of the FairFuelUK organisation, which campaigns against tax rises on petrol, Howard Cox is used to criticism from environmentalists and cyclists.

What he didn’t expect was someone listing his home address in Kent as a petrol station on Google Maps in the middle of a fuel crisis.

“I got 70 phone calls with people saying, ‘have you got any petrol for sale?’” he told the Guardian. “I was panicking because my phone didn’t stop ringing and it’s my private home address. They typed in ‘petrol stations near me’ and it came up with a little flag over my house saying ‘petrol station’."

He said the reaction on Twitter had given him clues as to who was responsible: “It has to be an environmentalist. The people who are laughing their socks off are mainly cyclists, I’ve blocked a lot of them. If I find him – I’m assuming it’s a him – I’m not quite sure I can control my actions. I’m convinced it’s a militant cyclist.”

How does listing his address as a petrol station result in him getting phone calls?

The freedom to drive is an important thing. I’m in a rural community and public transport is very very bad. You need your vehicle.”

I await his campaigning to improve public transport.

Genius.

Says a lot about him that his first reaction is to lash out at cyclists.

Terrible reporting from The Guardian, too.

When you click on a business on Google Maps it gives their phone number. His number was obviously also added to the listing

I'm not sure how you could do that without being the person running that business. Don't Google normally verify ownership by sending a code through the post?

That's the process as a business owner I thought.

I guess someone could list it as a place of interest, get some corroboration and you are away...

It's awful headline writing from the Guardian.

You've got to feel sorry for the guy - actual incontinence to add to his verbal incontinence and his high blood pressure.

That’s the process as a business owner I thought.

He has a dodgy fuel additives company which may explain why he wants ICE cars to continue to be produced.

That might already be on Google and someone ammended the listing?

im all seriousness, it is just me thats a smidge irritated that this i being run as a "militant cyclist" thing, where he has no evidence it was a cyclist whatsoever?

He's literally made it up, and now its a headline?

He said the reaction on Twitter had given him clues as to who was responsible:

Sounds totally plausible.

“It has to be an environmentalist.

Does it? Why?

The people who are laughing their socks off are mainly cyclists, I’ve blocked a lot of them.

These two things are not the same.

If I find him – I’m assuming it’s a him

Sexist.

I’m not quite sure I can control my actions.

Why aren't the police talking to him about threats of violence?

I’m convinced it’s a militant cyclist.”

Of course you are. Probably why you got pranked in the first place.

Normally I'd be a little irate with the cyclist link in the title but this time I actually quite like it.

Respect to person who did it, no matter who they are.

Does it? Why?

Because I'm not sure "it had to be someone who thinks I'm a monumental bellend " (which is the truth ) gets you any sympathy from gammons.

That’s cheered me up.

What is a militant cyclist? Is it just anybody who happens to ride a bike?

I thought 'Ultimum' was the Crime-busting Multitasking Super Heroine that Howard dresses up as at Cosplay Conventions. Its not just cyclist who like wearing lycra.

Shame on the Guardian for that.

At least they "fixed" the headline.

Initially it just straight out said that a cyclist had done it.
