I only ticked Glasses because I got no choice as to wearing them 🙁

Hardly STW Niche.

Glasses are currently scored at number 2 so they clearly are.

I don't own a German estate car but I do own a Golf GTi and T5 California. Surely that trumps a run of the mill Audi A4 for niche points?

Glasses aren't really an STW niche, are they? Nor are children.

I have a German car but it's not an estate.
Job in IT
Just sold my 5 a few days ago!

Glasses, in need of replacement
Quality wris****ch - an Elliot Brown, it's lovely not Quartz not Auto so may not make the cut
Job in IT - Meh.
Orange Five - but it's about 6 years old, I bought it 2nd hand, it has 26" wheels, no dropper post, no flared head tube, it's almost a relic!

Missing Category: Beer belly

None - although I would describe my 18yr old £55 Accurist as quality, but didn't count it as I doubt that's what was meant.

STW niche? They are having a laugh. Being over forty and having access to a PC when you should be working isn't niche 🙂

I drive a Golf but it's not an estate, and sometimes have to wear glasses. So not many of the above.

None of the above if I can discount grown up children 🙂

I would have thought a ****y coffee machine should have been on the list, I haven't got one of those either.

Only things missing for me are:

A "quality wris****ch", I've got a couple of very nice Nixons, but I don't think they count.
A job in "playing Angry Birds" / forum browsing.
A Halifax filing cabinet.

😉

A few niches missing from the poll. Bean to cup machine, SS, Fat or CX bike, and as said it should be a Soul or 5.

I don't give a toss about the rest but the 'work in IT' one has always wound me up. Glad to see it's finally been laid to rest as complete nonsense. Try again with 'work in the health service' for a much higher mark.

"laid to rest"? Hardly.

Have a think about all the people you know. I'd guess that at least half of them are parents (if anything the poll seems to under-represent these)

A substantial number of them will use glasses for reading, distance or just for cycling (so a high number not exactly unexpected).

34% with a "quality" wris****ch? That's way above what I experience day-to-day so does indicate some sort of niche.

28% with a beard? Even assuming right up front that this is a male-dominated site, that's got to be higher than in the general population. Maybe many (like me) are doing a seasonal beard?

Wood burning stove - 25%!! Really? Most of the folk I know don't live in houses big enough for one.

Job in IT. 23%. Do you reckon that's fairly standard across the general population? Think of all those shops, hotels, restaurants, bars. Think of folk in public transport, think of the number of folk in the NHS etc. 23% is way, way higher than you might expect.

Just the stove for me, when the council decided to refit their (my house) housing stock with an air source heating/hot water system and radiators they removed existing open fires and bricked up the fireplaces so I promptly knocked mine back out, lined the chimney and fitted a multi-fuel stove as I have an unlimited supply of seasoned wood, I saw no reason to pay for heating when I get it for free (as long as the stove is on that is).

Someone started a thread on here a while ago. 'What's your job'. The vast majority of people who responded were in the health service.

Of course, outside of that run a survey online and the vast majority of people who will see and respond will be people who work in IT, you know, what with them being online 100% of the time and everything. I know what the reality is (I don't work in IT any more), the stereotype is ridiculous and inaccurate.

If people want to believe it, that's up to them.

The list is missing - disc braked road bike, fat bike, 29er, one other daft bike with weird curly bars that aren't drops, hip flask, good quality tent for biking, cheap rockshox reverb...

So from the statistics it looks like you have to have a special watch with thousands of miniature dials, this makes you blind. This obviously attracts the female of the species and after which you can own a child 😉

Bet Darwin didn't see that coming.. but then again he had a beard 😉
