Currently have an iphone 4 which is nearing the end of it's life so would like something new. I won't get much for my current phone so don't want to pay for anything up front and don't mind looking at recycled mobiles. Any ideas?

SIM-only for about a tenner a month with your current phone until it completely dies, and save the extra ten quid or so each month to pay for a new handset.

I'm on a sim only at the moment but phone is very nearly dead poor thing. I've come across this http://www.store-3.co.uk/3-three-nokia-lumia-925-black-refurb.html?ref=product_title but not sure on the company "Hand over fist"

Can't seem to locate reviews on them, anyone used them here?

Buy a Moto G for £130, get a Virgin Sim only deal from £7 per month- rolling 30 day contract.

Better than being tied into a 24 month contract.

Saw a legit looking ad (ie direct with the phone company) for a Samsung s5 for £19.99 p/m on a 500mb contract, no upfront cost - can't remeber the network though.

U-Switch are sometimes a decent source of good deals

If you fancy changing from iOS to Android, you could/can buy a Samsung S5 or HTC One M8 from Vodafone for about £280 then, get it unlocked and stick any SIM only SIM in it.

Also keep an eye on the O2 Refresh and Refurb deals.

The Moto G is a good phone and a great deal considering how cheap it can be had for.

Similar position, trying to find a phone for my wife and contract for me so following with interest, not sure however that

about £280
falls into the category of
don't want to pay for anything up front
!
My problem is a just eat through data but 3 don't seem to have an unlimited data, bugger all calls deal any more.

Unless cost of repair is uneconomic or usage doesn't justify?

I've got a 4S with dodgy headphone / speaker, but cost is £25 or so and I've had it repaired before -- not worth it. Current 4S has cracked screen and dodgy battery - again, put repair towards decent nearly new phone rather than repair..

I've got a Moto G that I bought for Dad, but he's never used it (and never will) if you're interested; £90?

(It's all boxed up etc)

I just recently went SIM only with 3 and they didn't seem to do unlimited data with tiny minutes anymore - you could previously just pick and choose how many minutes then add unlimited data for a fiver. I went for 2 gig of data with 200 minutes for a tenner a month, which was the notional limit that I'd set myself.

I must add I've had the HTC one for nearly 2 years now and it's a really good phone.
Tesco have 2 networks to choose from at that price. It's a cracking deal, the handset is over £350 to buy alone!

Can't see past that deal to be honest

Yes - send a text once every 8 minutes, day and night, for a month.

We bought it in store. I can't see it online either. It was last week we got it, hopefully it's still available.

Thanks for all your responses, ended up going for a LG G3 for £20 a month on EE. Phone cost £50 but other half said she'd pay for it as an early birthday present.

LG G3 is a cracking phone. If you update to lollipop and are getting issues with battery drain then do a full reset sorted it for me and now the battery mostly lasts a couple of days. It might even be worth checking for the update before you start loading apps etc onto it, then just do a reset, that way you won't lose anything.

Out of interest how much data you getting for £20 p/m from EE?

I just recently went SIM only with 3 and they didn't seem to do unlimited data with tiny minutes anymore

There's still a £15/month sim only deal with unlimited data, unlimited texts and 200 minutes. I was on an older £12.90 /month deal but upgraded as the new 3 tariffs have 0800 numbers included, and I had spent more on this that the difference. It also includes 4Gb of tethering, which was £5 for 1Gb on the old.

If you get 3 reception it's a great deal. I can use my allowance in the USA and much of europe without roaming costs, and much of London I get 4G, faster than my home broadband. I watch netflix or iplayer steaming on my phone from the train most days.
