My old iPad is grinding to a halt, prob had it for 7 years, owes me nothing to be honest. I could do with replacing it, gets a fair amount of use between wee yins homework, movies on treadmill, all sorts.
No other apple stuff in the house, not loyal to them, just think as this one has been so good, I'd probably prefer another iPad.
Ta!
The pro speakers are amazing… if music is one of your use cases for your iPad, get one. Otherwise, the basic iPads are now far from basic.
I've got a 2019 iPad Air from John Lewis just before Christmas. I will say the new basic iPad screen is great I do prefer the screen on the iPad air.
Mrs TiRed has the same with the nice keyboard cover. It's very nice indeed.
I’ve got the 11″ pro because I thought I was going to do lots of bikablo type drawing on it using the pencil. It mostly gets used for watching netflix on the train home though. I probably should have just bought the bog standard iPad. It is lovely though, especially the face recognition and the sound quality is pretty good.
Basic ipad from the refub store should be the default option

Except there doesn't seem to be any in there at the moment.
I have the current iPad Air and I highly recommend it and it’s worth it over the cheaper one as it has a processor which is two generations newer so should have better longevity.
I always buy from apple as I’m bearish to a few apple stores in London so any issues are sorted by taking it into a Genius Bar.
I wasn't aware that there's any difference in buying from Apple or another retailer, regarding using the genius bar?.
They're all apple.
I'm on the 12.9" iPad Pro 2018 and it's fricking awesome.
You may be able to get one cheap now the 2020 Pro is out.
Depends on your needs of course, but my iPad is my primary leisure computing/gaming device at the moment so I wanted something pretty powerful.
Drac's iPad so you'll never have issues browsing STW.
Depends on budget. The 2018 iPad Pro 10.5 is still a brilliant device and I got one for around £270 refurbed on eBay for babybgoode to use. Been perfect and would recommend if that's the kind of price you want to pay.
The new 2020 iPad Pro's are just lovely if you have the cash.
The new 2020 iPad Pro’s are just lovely
Is there actually much difference from the 2018 models? Specs look very similar.
I think it comes down to the eu 2 year warranty thing (hopefully we keep it..) where I took my iPhone in after a year and a half and the guy said it’s good you bought it here as otherwise you would have to take it back to original retailer. He might have been wrong to be fair
I've got a (second hand) 11" 2018 iPad Pro and am a bit underwhelmed to be honest.
I had a 12.9" version from work and found it too big for anything practical most of the time, hence my decision to get the smaller version for myself.
But, if buying again, I'd get the latest Air and save a load of money.
There are some good deals on refurb models, but the warranties are often a bit duff (12 months or less), so I'd stick with the best new Air deal I could find. Often John Lewis.
Depends on what you use it for I guess. The Pros absolutely blow away the Airs when it comes to 3D gaming etc (e.g. they can play Fortnite at 120fps while the Air struggles at 60fps).
Check out the benchmark results, especially for "Metal" (the 3D engine):

If that isn't something that interests you then the Air is probably a better and cheaper bet.
I’m short of cash so I’ve picked up a used Air 2 for zwifting duties.
I like it, it was £200 looks pretty much new and runs everything I need it to. 64gb model too.
I’ll probably keep this 2 years and do the same again. We’ve got a family iPad too, the new basic one, it’s very good, but it’s not worth the extra £150 for my needs.
My usual advice when buying Apple stuff is to get the latest model. If you do they last a long time, and get updates for at least 5 years.I have a 9.7 inch iPad pro, and it's working like new and hardly has a mark on it.
If you have the cash I'd get the latest 11 inch pro. If you can find anywhere selling last years model cheap it might be worth getting that, as there's only been a minor update this time round.
John Lewis is the only place around to have stock of the air by the looks of it.
