I need to stick some glass to some metal. This will be mainly supported with screws, so the glue is a backup.

I have two glues available: hot glue gun, and UHU in the yellow tube.

Which does STW recommend? Has to be one of these. Not going out.

I doubt either will be any level of back up relative to screws but hot melt might be better than uhu.

Is that UHU actually any use for anything (other than bagheads)? From memory it's purpose in life is to turn to rubber and fall off.

UHU is just PVA glue isn't it? ok for kids art projects, making spaceships out of toilet rolls etc, but not much above that.

Or UHU might be a brand offering different types of glue, but ive only ever seen it in PVA form for arts and crafts.

If you enjoy picking rubbery bits from the end of glue tubes it is good for that.  Personally I prefer Copydex as you can spread it on your palm and, once dry, peel it off like shedding a skin

The UHU isn’t like PVA no. It’s that clear stringy stuff like you use to do airfix.

Also uhu is German for owl. I have no idea if it actually is owl glue though.

Like polestyrene cement? thats what I used to use for Airfix/plastic model making.
I doubt it would be any good for sticking metal to glas, it dries really britlle and would just snap.

Glue made from horses got a bad rap, so now they have moved onto barn owls.

Whoa... beatties brings the memories back - I used to get the train from Cov to go to the Beatties store in the Bull Ring shopping centre, mostly to drool over the Tamiya RC cars..😀

My memory is that UHU was 'contact adhesive,' nasty bronchitis-coloured stuff. But yes, UHU a brand not a specific product.

Having just looked at their website, seemingly all of their products are in yellow tubes so "UHU yellow" in the OP could be literally anything. Well, 'literally anything' so long as it's some form of glue at least, it's unlikely to be tomato soup.

You'd get a thinner film with UHU, assuming it's the clear 'Airfix-like' version, compared to hot melt. It also depends how complex it is, how many screws, as hot melt needs to be done quickly and uniformly. For hot melt, I'd heat the component first, if possible - in boiling water, then dry them quickly, apply glue, fit together.

Whichever, I would also ensure the glass is scratched, eg, with wet & dry sandpaper.

Whoa… beatties brings the memories back –

You ain't kidding. I used to work in the massive one near me.

Best and most fun part time job I ever had.
Hungover on a quiet sunday morning, staging massive train wrecks on the huge store layout.
Also used to make a regular side income building Tamiya RC kits for peoples whose kids weren't old enough to do it themselves. £20 a kit.

Well the glue gun didn’t work at all. Owl glue now applied 🦉

Beatties wasn't in the Bull Ring, was it? I thought it was at the bottom of Corporation St?

It take it this is a vailed reference to agoraphobia

Either glue should be capable of gumming up the locks and keeping you housebound

Uhu is (apparently) German for "eagle-owl", which is even cooler.

this is what canyon recommended to reattach the metal chain protector to a carbon frame.... 4 years and still going strong. (though black color might not be a good colour with glass 😀 )

I’m thinking of Beatties the model shop - first floor of the Bull Ring if I remember correctly. I think Beatties on Corporation St was a department store?

Use the goddam silicone sealant
If you stick glass to metal with any hald decent silicone, and your contacr area is dry and abraided it wont ever come apart
As long as its dry, cured in thewarm for a couple of hours, and preferably under tension or compression load
Unless your contacts area is tiny then your screwed without a 3m 2 pack product
