Anyone got a recommendation on best airline to fly business class to NY from London? Need to go to work meeting and thought there would be a better option than BA!

Depends...

If you can get 62a or k on a BA747, it's the best business class seat across the pond. If not, I'd go with American, providing it's on a 777, with their reverse herringbone seat.

Flying AA also means a T3 departure, and therefore the Cathay or Qantas lounges, which are both very good.

I'd still rather fly top deck on a BA747 than in most other single deck BC configurations or even an A380, irresepective of the carrier. Getting 62a or k is just the icing on the cake.

Am in 62k tomorrow, as it happens.

Nope. If it's a 747, the 62A or K, or 64A on BA are the best. Others upstairs are good, especially window seats.

Aside from the 3 listed above, a reverse herringbone window seat on an American 777 is better than almost any BA seat, and almost any other business seat to NY. (Row 3 in the mini cabin up front is best, avoid thr back row of the bigger cabin)

Otherwise, the 787, 350 or 380 are better to fly on than a 747. Especially if it's Virgin with their coffin seat. (Not sure if they still fly 747s to NY though)

BA / American Airlines codeshare is my choice. JFK or EWR?

Lots of choice for times to/from JFK. The refurbed 747 running to JFK are OK. Went two weeks ago.

See, I’d choose Virgin Upper over BA Business Class any day. It doesn't matter which seat you get, you don't have to step over anyone. You don't have those slightly awkward moments when they lower the seat divider to serve meals\drinks\take off, where you're suddenly staring straight into the face of a stranger. The bar is a nice touch if you want to have a drink and get some work done somewhere other than your seat and the lounge at Heathrow is great. Also, almost all flights to JFK/Boston are now on almost new A330s which are far more comfortable than older 747 400s and 777s, due to better active stability control.

Takes all sorts, Daffy! I find the virgin seat too narrow, not enough recline (either up, or having to faff around flipping it) and not enough storage at seat. Also, the lounge, while fairly good, is always way too busy, mainly as they only have one. OneWorld gives you more options, and in some cases, a First lounge as well.

Also, the on board bar. Yes, it can be a good thing, but not off you get a seat near it and it's full of SAGA-louts the whole way over!

Had 62a over to Vancouver once, was brilliant, like having a private(ish) suite. Also had it booked for the return journey but BA buggered around with the seating, bumping me to 62b. So near, yet so far...

I've turned down upgrades to First to stay in 62a/k. It's better than an 'aisle' seat down stairs, IMHO. Not as good as 2a/k though, so if anyone from BA is reading this and wants to upgrade me later today...

I'd also personally take virgin over ba, but my main tip would be to fill up on food at the lounge, then straight to bed when you get on the flight, and ask for the latest possible wake up. Shower and a bacon buttie in the arrivals lounge, and you'll feel 10x better than having lost an extra 2 hours sleep on the flight. Or take that daytime ba flight, which is also nice.

Also remember theres options into city and Gatwick, depending on where you need to be

can you take aer lingus via Dublin from London? I do that a fair bit from Zurich, entering the US in Dublin makes arrivals hugely less fraught.

Business class is pretty good, better than many others.

AA business class is my favourite though. Great seats.
