Where's Good In Wales?

We're planning on heading to North Wales in June for a week but have no idea what's good/bad/otherwise.

Looking for an Airbnb or a cottage for two of us and a dog. I plan on taking the big and wouldn't mind having a crack at Snowdon one morning but otherwise need somewhere that's good for pottering about with the dog and possibly another couple of rides.

What kind of areas are worth looking at?

Porthmadog.
On the coast but mountains nearby. Welsh Highland Railway up to Caernarfon for lunch and a few beers.

Bethesda looks lovely from photos my sis took while cat-sitting over Xmas.

Portmadog is a good base - Purple Moose brewery is a bonus.

There's a village just outside called Tramadog - the pub (Golden Fleece?) as well as doing great food also seems to own a lot of the holiday cottages on the village.

Spent 2 weeks in North Wales recently, we had a lovely little cottage just outside of Bethesda.

In Bethesda you've got Zip World the old slate quarry adapted to sling people down the side of the mountain at 90mph, it's okay, good fun but expensive at £90 a go.

Caernarfon Castle is huge and very impressive £12 a head to go in, we'll worth it. Royal Welsh Fusiliers Museum inside was fascinating.

Loads to do on Anglesey, it's a bit of a trek but South stack is very pretty and nice place to stop, a few National Trust properties Plas Newydd and Penrhyn Castle are worth a visit enjoyed both of them.

There's a pretty hip cinema in Bangor aswell if your stuck of an evening or the weather ain't so hot.

If you have the time as well stop at the Mach Loop near Dolgellau and if your lucky enough you'll have your head blown off.

Just a few recs an not a bike in sight!

Porthmadog gets my vote too.  I was in the area last year and did plenty of walking, some bike riding and would have surfed if the waves had been playing ball.  The steam train was an added bonus for a dull middle aged man like myself.

I stayed here last May:

located right in Coed y Brenin forest so loads of great rides and walks from the doorstep, owners are MTBers, very friendly, lovely quiet spot.

As MCTD says, IIRC that pub used to do a very, very good ‘pub’ curry too 👌

Anywhere along the coast from (& including) Barmouth  to Portmadog for me, a great coast line for dawg walking, or drive inland and just go walking, also close enough to CYB for mtb-ing or the Pont scethin natural loop (might be harsh this time of year).

Stayed here and it was lovely (though ours needed you to duck to use the front door): https://www.argoedfarmholidays.com/cottages

I go to Porthmadog every year, good to see it getting so much love on here.

Might get something booked in for the Spring actually.
