Got to book a hotel for 4 nights, I'm not posh so it doesn't have to be the Hilton, just clean and a car park where my van isn't going to get robbed would be ideal. Already asked on the other side about any local riding but I'll need pubs/food also. Course finishes at 4 each day so I'll have a fair bit of free time.

It's only open until 5pm, but I have heard many very good things about the Hepworth Art Gallery

I did a job there last year. I was genuinely surprised at how awful the place is. I’ve been to plenty of run-down towns in the last few years - I’m from South Wales! - but Wakefield was dreadful. I spent an hour looking for somewhere vaguely decent to eat and ended up back at the Burger King opposite the hotel. I hate BK/Macdonalds etc, that’s how bad it is. Good luck.

There's/was a good 'local' pub called The Redoubt but It's years since I was in there. Proper pub type pub. Had some good currys in Wakey as well, Red Chilli 2 was a good one.
Ton would be a good lad to ask, he's knows the place quite well.

Freak spotting is a great game to play in Wakefield. Used to play it quite often. I’m allowed to abuse the locals as I was born in WF14.

Best place by far to stay when working in Wakefield is as far away as you are willing to drive to.

All sounds really positive. I can't be arsed to drive far as it's an 8am start each day. I'll probably get out on the bike a bit then.

It's not all bad. Premier Inn in Thornes Park is good and has the Holmfield Arms pub next door. Ok food. Iris is a nice restaurant in town. Grill pit and smokehouse are above average bbq places. Rusticos is a good Italian. Jose's is a great tapas place. As said before Fernandez and Harry's are great for beer but red shed labour club and jolly boys cafe are also good.
The wheel of Wakefield can be accessed from around town. 37 miles mixed surface. Transpenine trial can be accessed at the back of newmillerdam which is a little village with a few restaurants and pubs. The woods around the dam used to be good for mountain biking. Not ridden in anger up there in a while though.

As per above - Newmillerdam nearest ok riding. Woods there and Seckar Woods and Woolley Moor can be combined to make an couple of hours. It's very old school riding and cheeky trails rather than anything exciting by modern standards.

Castle and Star Inn in Sandal are decent pubs nearby for food.

Three acres at Shelley is very good food if you don't mind a drive but not cheap.
