So then, just booked my flight to go and watch the mighty Leicester City in the champions league against Porto.

Where is a good area to stay?

Will have an evening before and a day after the day of the game so any tips on things to see also appreciated.

We had a few days there a couple of years ago. Not a big city. Good for wandering about. and cheap imo.
We stayed in a posh hotel (missus' work),on the Ave.d Boavista - loads of big hotels there.
We went to the see Casa Musica ,Crystal palace gardens, museum of modern art - which was my favourite tbh, I went twice.. Try lunch over the river in Villa nova de Gaia, near Ponte(bridge) Luis. Lovely seafood.
They do boat trips up to the vineyards and try to sell you Port 🙂 - I was daddy day care so didn't bother with that.
They have a local delicacy - Francensinha which sounds fabulous on paper...I had one.ha.

Stayed there in July this year. Lovely place, lots of hills.

Got a great Air B&B on Rua de Cedofeita, which is bang in the middle of town. Lots of bars and restaurants, all of which were reasonably priced and pretty good. We ate well there, heading over to Rua da Picaria, which is just up from La Galerias ( which is pricey ). This is the more up and coming area, more trendy like Soho, can recommend the Tapas in Tasquinha Dos Sabores.

Then you can finish with some really good craft beer at [url=

Can recommend doing some Port tasting at Portologica on Rua de São João

Try lunch over the river in Villa nova de Gaia

Oh yeah, sitting in the cafes on the river eating a Francesinha with a Super Bock and looking at the Dom Luis. That was good.

We were there whilst the Euros were on, and went in the bars and cafes to watch the matches. Incredible atmosphere, the entire city went off when they went through on penalties, but in a big, happy way, lots of noise and excitement, but in no way threatening. You'll have a bloody amazing trip, slightly jealous. I was walking around in my England Rugby shirt, and didn't get any trouble. If anything I got collared and talked to about bloody politics and Brexit, so watch out for that 😆

Oh, and trams, buses all really easy to navigate, and not that expensive.
