As above really, going for a short break at the end of October with the missus, we've never been and would prob prefer a hotel - any recommendations?

Cheers,

Depends on your budget really. The Grand Amrath is a nice hotel in a good location and you can sometimes get it at reasonable money. If you are feeling flush the Sofitel Legend and Krasnapolsky are also nice but too expensive for my wallet (i have only ever stayed with work).

Barbizon Palace is nice - stayed there 3 times in the last 5 years.

Owl Hotel is basic but cheap and good location, friendly staff.

Short walk to the museum quarter.   Walk or tram to the center.  Shops, resturants, park,  bike hire, canal boat trips all nearby.

Small though, may be booked up.

We went last month with a similar budget. Ended up at the EasyHotel out at the Arena.
It was perfectly good. Location was over the road from the Arena train station, direct trains from the airport and metro in to Central took about 15 minutes, cost 7.50 euros for a day pass on all metro/bus/trams run by GVB. It's also next door to a Decathlon store, which is always a bonus 🙂
