Driving from London to the midlands to meet up with a mate (coming down from Harrogate) for a few hours. Ideally somewhere in the middle-as-possible.

Not bikes. Hike/walk would be nice, but nothing too strenuous. Interesting museums?

Current thinking (I've not given it much thought...) is Cadbury World and maybe something else in the area, can anyone better that?!

Thanks,
Duane.

Chatsworth, Calke Abbey and Hardwick Hall are both fairly equidistant depending on where in London and close to the M1.

Calke's an interesting one as it shows what happened to lots of these places in the decade or so after "Downton Abbey" when the last of the old money ran out.

Cosford is worth a visit if you like planes. Cafes not bad either.
If you can avoid rush hour, I’d head to Brum City centre. Head to Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery or The Ikon Gallery. Get coffee and cake at Medicine, York’s or Urban Coffee.
Cadbury World is pretty average unless you have kids.

+1 for the museum and art gallery, sounds daft but the library's nice to potter about, nice views from the rooftop. Anything on at the Rep, Town Hall or Symphony Hall?

Definitely the motorbike museum.  Not too far off the motorway.

Thanks for all the replies!

Just back, ended up going to Leicester - crazy golf, go-karting, cinema, dinner - pretty good day!
