I have a print by a famous Scottish artist (still living) - I might need to sell it...
Its signed and numbered by the artist. I bought it in 2000 and its been in a frame and on my wall since then.
I spoke to the Gallery I bought it from but they weren't really interested.
Do any of you artist types have any suggestions of where i might be able to sell it?
cheers
A lot depends on what you mean by an ‘artist print’ is the artist a print maker. ie is it an engraving / etching / screen print by an artist working in that medium? Or is it a reproduction of a painting or drawing? The latter can still be limited in number (but quite large numbers) but they’re sort of an approved reproduction rather than ‘an original print’ - sort of a bit like a signed book. But often not very collectible.
reselling work by living artists can have quite limited scope - there’s not really many galleries dealing with that, but other than the gallery you first bought from you could try researching what other galleries or dealers representing them. Galleries usually have quite discrete buying group that they cater for so they tend to know who’s keen on particular works by an artist they sell
what you might have better luck with though is searching for Facebook groups of contemporary print collectors ( I’ve been doing similar to identify the makers of a collection of contemporary ceramics I inherited from my dad - some of which I’ll sell but to do that I need to know who’s work it is)
you might find there are some collecting / buying / selling groups either for that artist or for artists of their style / era / locality. I found a couple of quite active ‘British studio pottery’ groups
Hi maccruiskeen,
thanks for the feed back. Its a screen print by the artist - that is her medium. She is of quite an age now and the print was actually produced at the Gallery i bought it from.
I will have a mooch around and see where else i can come up with.
thanks for your time.
Cool - have a look and see if she has a CV of exhibitions online anywhere - that'll give some leads in terms of galleries that either represent her or have sold work in the past

I'm curious as to who it is now - having been involved in a gallery that produced artist prints in Scotland once upon a time (god I've just realised how long ago)
I've sold hundreds of prints and silkscreen posters over the years on eBay.. everything from Banksy to Kyffin Williams.
Do some Google searching for past auction house prices and eBay completed items.
If the artist is old / unwell then I'd hang onto it if possible until they pass away as there is usually an increased demand for recently deceased artists work...
...and if they're not unwell or old, perhaps you can pop around to their place and encourage them to take up skydiving or ketamine?

Perhaps I should use that to increase sales of my art?

My partner is a print maker and could advise.
