I have a USA Strat which was an 18th birthday present. Been hanging in to it for the last 20 something years as I kinda felt like I "should" keep it. But basically I'm not a musician, I'm comfortable with that these days! It's had a few years of bedroom playing in it's early days, other than that it lives in it's hard case. So, not being a musician at all, I have no idea really to looks for places to sell. eBay seems to have plenty of expensive buy it now adverts, no idea if that's just wishful thinking by the sellers.

Stealth Ad is stealthy.

How much? Got a picture?

Reverb seems good as a buyer but I've never sold anything on there.

20 year old American Strat? Worthless, but I'll take it off your hands for £50 if you like 😉

Seriously though - Ebay "sold" prices should give you a good idea for what they actually sold for. Reverb is also good although I don't know if you can view "sold" prices rather than just asking prices.

Re where to sell, I've bough and sold several guitars recently, and had equal success with Facebook Marketplace and ebay (using £1 selling fee offers on ebay). There are several "guitar sale" groups on Fbook which might help.

Personally I have always insisted on local pickup, both to avoid my getting scammed or the guitar damaged but also so the buyer could have a proper inspection and we both come away happy.

Put a link to the ad on the "Guitarists of Singletrack" thread, you never know someone on here might be interested.

www.thefretboard.co.uk is worth looking at (you can ask for a rough idea of a guide price there too if you phrase it in a friendly manner). That said, I've always had most success with Gumtree (I'm too tight to pay eBay fees)

Our local guitar shop sells customer axes for a commission, any places local to you that may offer this service?
If it was a Tele I'd have been on it like a tramp on a kipper, unfortunately I already have a USA Strat.
Good luck with the sale.

Fretboard, Gumtree, eBay, Reverb - all work well.

lol - wasn't actually meant as a stealthy ad, but it does read like one! 😉

Thanks for the tips, I'll take a look. I'll add some pics later for you. Not as a stealthy ad you understand.... just because I'm sure you are interested.

Photo here

I remember now, it started life as a strat plus, and at the time it was upgraded to have EMG coil tapped humbuckers on the neck and bridge. I think there's also something with the tone control that pulls out that allows the neck and bridge pickups to be enabled. I'll need to open it up to remind myself of exactly what went on, it was a while ago!

EMG Marmite pickups. The nut's been replaced with what looks like a zero fret. It looks like a metal head got his hands on a nice Strat. In France it would go for similar money to an EVH Strat, at least 800e.

I think the nut is still the lsr roller nut that came on the strat plus.
I guess the pickups swap out moves it away from just being a strat. Although I think the original lace sensors were equally a bit Marmite as well. I forget really why I bothered at the time. Probably just trying to be different and cool. And successfully proved I was neither.

If you have the original pups, I might be tempted to return it to stock.

In its current state it’s a pretty niche instrument. Normal Strat Pluses seem to go for quite a bit.

Reverb is one of the better options.

If you want a quick sale, we might be interested in taking it off your hands,

JP

That doesn't seem to work.

eBay on a buy it now for what you want for it. I sold my PRS Custom 24 on eBay for over £2700. It sold within days.

Strat Plus in decent nick is about 1100 currently....some people ask stupid money for them, but they don't sell for that.

With those delightful 'modifications' I dunno, possibly someone would spend 700 on it?

EDIT...fairly sure that that not is the stock one as you say. If you've got the original pickups then drop me a PM as I'd be interested

Here's one, American Strats that are priced right sell in a few days on leboncoin so it gives you an idea of what level is overpriced.

https://www.leboncoin.fr/instruments_de_musique/1838614491.htm/

And now we know what it is exactly the Argus price in France is 1014e with one for sale at 800e:

Thanks Tom-B. I don't have the originals so it is what it is. Reckon I might pop it on eBay as Daffy suggested and see if I can find someone that would want it.

I'm toying with buying some a new lace sensor setup and at least largely returning it to stock. Do you think that's worth the bother? It obviously still won't be original, so might just be a waste of time and money. But it might make it appeal to a broader audience?

Depends on the buyer

I have a telecaster that was extensively modded in the late 70s before I bought it -It is absolutely killer but everyone wants to buy it and return to stock

I had another telecaster that was all original and 5 serial numbers away from my modded one, it was truly shit, and sold in 10 minutes

go figure

personally I dont think emg or lace are particularly fashionable right now so it probably doesn't matter much
