Mrs BigJohn & I are making the most of the nice weather (and our semi-retirement status) by making an impromptu trip to Edinburgh.
We'll be travelling back on Thursday, to Stafford, so either A74/M6 or A1/M1 will be sensible routes. The bikes are in the car.
Mrs BigJohn hasn't been to Scotland before so I want to show her the beauty and glory of the place. I was thinking doing a blue style route of Glentress but we don't want to spend all the time in forest. Another thought was a pootle near Loch Lomond.
I would expect a 15 mile-ish wheels-on-the-ground route is what we need. A bit of altitude isn't a problem. Neither is a 50 mile deviation from our drive home to get somewhere nice.
Suggestions please!
Aberfoyle/Callendar - Loch Venacher - Balquidder
Head for Wheels at Callendar or the Queen Eliz Forest Park very pretty, quieter than Loch Lomond and decent nosh in Callendar at Mhor Fish for example or Mhor84 if you head out to see Rob Roys grave at Balquhidder.

Could do worse than a ride in the Pentlands and take in the view ?
Aye Pentlands would be my choice. No better place on a good day, some stunning views!
Glentress is good fun, but not really the "beauty and glory" of Scotland!
The Pentlands is a good idea, because you don't need to drive anywhere. You can even ride out from the city off road on the Water of Leith path.
How much do you like climbing?
Gypsy glen should be pretty dry.
In the end we went to Drumlanrig. No doubt the fantastic weather helped as we found it excellent. We bumped into Rik from the bike shop who was a lovely helpful guy. I think we might go again so we can spend more than 3 hours there.
