3 or 4 pics, A4ish size

Colleague has suggested LoxleyColour as the default option.

anyone else to consider?

For straight-forward online I'd suggest PhotoBox. I don't use them but know a few who do.
Quality is reported to be good, as is price and delivery time...

I do use ProAm - happy to recommend them though you need to faff with downloading their profile and convert your pictures to it, also with a DPI adjustment.

+1 for ProAm. Yes it's a bit of a faff (keeps their costs down) and you have to get it right but their print fidelity is second to none. I've been using them for pro wedding stuff and have never had a bad result (except the odd slip up on my part which they've been very helpful with).

My clients get Peak Imaging prints. Holiday snaps go to Photobox and are perfectly acceptable.

Didn't realise pro am was so popular

Its brilliant. Top quality and low prices. 18 by 12 isn't much over a £1

Aye, proam are cheap, but it really is a faff. Especially as all A4 images have to be rotated into portrait format - wtf?! And their postage cost is prohibitive for a few prints...
