Seconded! We bought pasties from by the harbour for later on, they were far better than rick steins fish and chip shop.
Took my dad to Paul Ainsworth at No.6 for his birthday - nice food, Michelin Star, bloody expensive though!
Try Prawn on the Lawn, they do fish based "small plates" but you can also choose from the fish counter (they act as a fishmonger in the off season/during the day) and have it cooked a variety of different ways.
Fish and Burger didn't get a great review from the friends we were staying with, but I'd give it a try.
Theres also Rojano's in the Square (another Paul Ainsworth venture) serving Italian food, and Embers Wood Fired Pizza serving......pizza.
A few of these places also do take-out, if you don't want to sit in.
Other than that it's the usual Padstein choices!

Pucelli's above the ice cream parlor on the corner of the harbor is really good, you can't book so have to wait some times.
We regularly stay in Polzeath,must across the estuary & tend to avoid Padstow as it gets mobbed in high season. The Waterfront in Polzeath is very nice, as is The Edge in Port Isaac. With kids 7 &10
We had our honeymoon there. Ate at the posh resutarants in the evening (Ainsworth - awesome. Outlaw - disappointing, Seafood - fun) but they're probably not the best for kids.
Had lunch at Rick Steins Cafe (he basically owns the town so hard to avoid) which was very relaxed and informal, would be great for kids. Also crab baguette from Bin Two which is a cool little bar (should also be kid friendly).
Pasty Presto is sodding tasty. Don't expect not to queue.

No is isn't, I mentioned that although it was good, it isn't great for kids as the previous poster had also recommended it. I then stated another restaurant was a better bet.
Both comments being far more valid than your contribution!
