I need a vertical radiator and a normal wall radiator.  There's a myriad of suppliers, any suggestions as to who is good and who is not?

Also, electrical sockets on a kitchen island - sparky thinks you're not supposed to fit them into wooden cabinets.  Is that true?  I'm not a fan of the pop up ones.  Any other options people have used?  School laboratory style ones sitting on top?

Cheers

I used these guys in 2009 and they were fine.

Excellent range of radiators.

BTW sockets in cupboards are not recommended by sparkies as it's a "temporary installation". I.e. not set within the main fabric of the building. Its not a strict no-no, but you need a sympathetic sparky.

You could get them to install a floor box under the unit  and then you install a fly lead kind of arrangement (with correctly rated flex and such protection as necc) to the surface.

I've ended up buying a few radiators, including a nice looking vertical one, through screwfix. Usually had a set of TRV's included in the price.

We're having an island, and I'm NOT keen on the pop up plugs either.

However, I wasnt plugs on the island!

We have sockets on our breakfast bar - not quite and island but they are essentially in cupboards.  We bought a pop up but like those above, didn't fancy spoiling the worktop!

Pop ones are ok as long as they aren't the only available power source in the kitchen.

Ours gets used for when the food mixer or slower cooker is needed. The toaster and coffee machine are always plug in on a different counter/work surface run using normal wall sockets... Not sure it would be much fun having to use the pop up ALL the time.

No problem with getting the part P on the pop up ... we had a different electrical firm come and do the inspection and they didn't bat an eye lid.

Good luck

I agree with what you've written, but maybe "sympathetic" is too strong?

Location of accessories has been a bone of contention for years. Your house insurers will consider anything fixed to the fabric of the building as being essentially part of the building, and that was reflected in the electrical regs with a "should not" (or it was when I last looked a while ago)

What's temporary about a fitted kitchen that might be there for 10 or more years, with under cupboard and plinth lighting? Get advice from your installer, but don't be put off your ideal layout
