Back in the day when you were only allowed to discuss the topic of coffee on this forum, Hill and Valley Coffee was the place of choice for (some) of the STW coffee aficionados to buy their beans online.
Is this still the case or are there other alternatives? I seem to recall that H and V had changed their pricing and were no longer good value for money.
Recommendations please.

H and V changed the size of their bags so the smallest quantity you could buy was 5kg!

Hasbean here as well. Hill&valley were better but I too, as a casual buyer, was stuffed by their shipping price hike. Shame as i'd love to still get beans from them.
TBH I found the quality of beans was not really noticeably better than what you can get in a supermarket these days.

Which beans - Hasbeen or H and V?
My current bean of choice is Lavazza in 1KG bags from Tesco for £10 which seems to be quite good value to me.
try Macbeans in Aberdeen, the finest coffee shop around (IMHO):

I get Tesco own brand beans at £1.24 a bag. 75% cheaper than most others but not 75% less taste.

Yeah (or cappuccinos or lattes), using a Gaggia Classic. They produce good crema too.
As I have said before, they are certainly not the best but I do believe they represent very good value for money - if I make a good coffee* with them it tastes much better than if I make a bad one with more expensive beans.
*Ie, if I get the grind right, the temperature right, the dose right etc.
I buy beans from Origin Coffee in Cornwall (all the best cafes in Cornwall use them). The triple certified beans are great (and they've started doing a lot of single origin beans too if you like to try different things)

another Hasbean fan here - my boy gave me some for xmas, which I have just aobut finished - very nice - think it was the espresso starter pack. about to drop the cash for some more.

Squaremilecoffee for me with a distant second HasBean. Rarely have I bought beans from them that I was not impressed with. Will definitely give a go to the couple other shops mentioned here though.

The problem with Origin is they don't tend to roast their own beans, which means they've often been sitting around for a few weeks and tend to be a bit stale by the time you get them 🙁 Disappointing as they're relatively local to me and seem really nice in all other ways.
These days I'm also a Hasbean customer, and have never had any reason to go elsewhere. Fresh coffee, fast delivery and fantastic choice. What's not to like?
hasbean are great - coffee always delicious, and very fast turnaround on orders. They seem to be busy roasting and shipping over the weekends as well as during the week

Monmouth Street Do on-line/e-mail sales but it's only worthwhile for 3kg and above due to the courier charge. Tunaround is 1 day as long as the order is in before 2pm. The organic espresso is very nice.
Drury lane's espresso classico is not too bad either.

tracknicko you find that expensive? Any branded 227gr coffee from a supermarket is around 3£. So you they charge an extra 50p-1£ for most of their coffees for slightly more coffee despite not having the volumes of supermarket brands. I find them very reasonably priced.
yeh i do really. the big coffee house in shef vegas is circa 2.50 per 250gram.
roasted on site i beleive... so twice as much seems a bit over the top!
I always buy 2 bags of beans at a time from hasbean - keeps the cost down a bit
definately Monmouth St for quality roasted beans.
my friend is one of the roasters there and i can say that they do fine blends indeed

Another +1 for Monmouth. Since H&V stopped doing smaller quantities i've been getting my beans from their shop in Borough Market. The Organic Espresso is great.
