Looking to make an indo board, so need 18 cm diameter x 45cm (ideally hardwood) machined round.

Have found a few sawmills doing fence posts, but any idea where to get a one off that has been turned to a reasonable surface finish?

Needs to be less than the £39 it would cost be from german ebay...

Hmm. The internet says use PVC pipe.

Go chat to a local chippy, preferably one that actually makes stuff rather than nails stuff together

You might be better off laminating 4 bits together and getting it turned to 18 cm diameter. £39 quid delivered sounds reasonable to be honest, unless you already have the off cuts buying, gluing and turning the wood for £39 would be cheap.

Make an Mdf template, source some nice timber from a joinery shop. Tack template on said timber, router round with edge trimmer cutter. Sand, oil, buff, finish. (Stratford upon Avon based if any help needed)

I can see how this would work for a disc but how could you do this for a 45 cm long cylinder? Or do you think lots of discs laminated together? Not a pro btw which is why I'm asking.

Just use nylon rod

This was the closest I could find to the OP's desired size... 😀

I couldn't be entirely sure, but are some people reading the OP's requirements as 45mm? It's a 180mm x 450mm long cylinder he needs. OP, for the hassle, I'd just pay the £40ish.

You've got a long router cutter! 😉

Pvc pipe off-cut from a friendly road worker, talk to a wood Turner or the 40 quid.

Are these anything like a Rola Bola? We just used to use a short length of pipe that workmen would conveniently leave by the side of the road.

I have a woodturning lathe & am based in Nottingham. Can help if you're local. However, £40 doesn't sound to bad to be honest, you would be getting close to that for the hardwood alone.

Thanks for all the generous offers of help! Reminds me of why I (mostly) like this site!

Think I'm going to try the PVC pipe route initially.
