Drive to Mecklenburg and the lakes north of Berlin. It's genteel countryside, good access to the Baltic Sea, and filled with fabulous, canoe-able fresh water.
On second thought, don't. I hate meeting other Brits when I'm in Germany. 😕
Honestly, though, it is very nice, and perfect for a family.
