We live in a small two bed house and the iPad has been missing for nearly a fortnight. We know Funkette (five) was the last to have it whilst watching Waffle the Wonder Dog. Looked everywhere including the washing basket, under beds and behind radiators.

Where would a crazy five year old hide an iPad? I’ve questioned the suspect and been told “in your belly”, “over there”, “The tigers have it” and “somewhere Pip” all delivered with a cheery smile. It’s definitely inside the house which consists of open living and dining room, galley kitchen, porch, landing, bathroom above kitchen and two bedrooms. One with bunk beds (which I’ve checked behind and under.

So STW it is down to you to help me find it!

Behind a radiator? [sorry a reading fail on my part]

how about behind a row of books on a bookshelf?

Checked behind all radiators as that’s where she likes to post food and toys. Nothing beats the smell of malt loaf being slowly heated up by a radiator 😂Not in the car or garden. Need to think like a small child who is exceptionally cheeky and more than a tad tricksy!

how about behind a row of books on a bookshelf?

checked the kids bookshelf and the one in the living room.

Try the “find my iPad” function? It might have enough battery life yet! Accurate to a few feet in my experience.

While we're at it, anyone know where MrsMC put her passport?

She's taking LittleMissMC (not so little, 16 at Christmas) to Eurodisney on Friday for a girls weekend.

I was only informed of the trip last weekend. I am trying to look sympathetic.

Turn off all other screens and tell her Ep.6 of Waffle only on the iPad. Or escalate to No Pudding.

Tried Find my iPad but must’ve powered down before we noticed. I’m thinking of renting her out to the families in the burglary/sock thread. You’d never find the money in our house if she’d hid it.

It won’t be higher than she can reach, so that rules out anything higher than 5 foot I guess? In a bag or a bean bag or something similar?

Turn off all other screens and tell her Ep.6 of Waffle only on the iPad. Or escalate to No Pudding.

Liking the idea of this in principle but most discipline or removing things threats don’t work on her for some reason. Normally results in a shrug and skipping away whilst humming. It’s her birthday tomorrow so might try this tactic at the weekend.

It won’t be higher than she can reach, so that rules out anything higher than 5 foot I guess?

She’s tiny but an adept climber. Like living with Peter Parker if he was the villain! Hidden inside a cushion or similar is worthy of further investigation though.

Is it an iPad Mini? If so, then inside the video recorder. Have you got bookshelves? Perhaps she’s pushed it in between a couple of books somewhere.

Maybe she can help with a missing sock of mine! All my washing goes into a basket, which goes down to the kitchen and then into the machine. I’ve got two pairs of thick, warm M&S wool socks, and one sock has gone bloody missing!
Most annoying.

Not sure on model but think it’s a four. Bought it from the classifieds on here a few years ago. Only other screens are the TV and Switch (which is out of her reach). Did have an Amazon Fire tablet but that got put in the bath when I turned my back for 0.0004 seconds whilst running it. It no longer works.

Does she have any bags she uses for play/dressing up? One of my kids managed to lose their Fitbit in this way, albeit slightly easier than with an iPad.

If not bookshelves, could it be amongst any artwork that’s been gathered up? Cereals cupboard/draw? Dolls house? Wardrobe?

Checked the dressing up drawers and wardrobes. She sits in the bottom of ours to play sometimes. Kitchen drawers all still have safety locks on them and it’s not in the playhouse. Running out of places to check.

Remove all drawers - including the kitchen ones - and look in the space behind them. If you don't find the iPad then I'm sure you will find something else that you thought you'd lost.

Appliances. Oven, fridge, microwave.

It's thin. Under sofa seat cushions, under sofas come to that. Look for slots.

[EDIT: bloody hell, they typed that ^^ whilst I was typing in another window]

Inside the sofa? Would it fit in a welly? I lost a bank card and found out with my toes upon putting my wellies on. Along with farm animals.

Definitely not in the kitchen or bathroom. Both are pretty small and therefore easy to check. Mainly need to find it so Funk Jr can do Spelling Shed, Maths Shed and TT Rock Stars for school. She’s outdone herself on this one. Have a strange sense of pride!

Not in the garden as it’s not secure so the kids don’t have access without one of us present and the back door is locked. Inside the sofa could be a good shout. Checked under and behind but not inside.

Based on where my keys were I’d immediately check the washing machine… but that’s probably been checked.

Dirty washing pile/basket?
Suitcase?
In the ceiling cavity between the insulation and ceiling?

… by the way has anyone seen ReeksyJr1’s black Swatch?

Thrown out with the rubbish…?

Well that is a possibility, but the only way to be sure is a systematic search room by room.

Divide each room into segments and leaving no stone unturned, with the diligence of a police drug search squad, go through every section one at a time. And think like a police search team when the suspect is of devious mind.

Be thankful. My sister accidentally lost a 22ct gold snake bracelet with emerald eyes that cost £1800 and we believe it went out with the potato peelings. She had only recently received it as a 21st gift so stupidly wore it doing everyday tasks.

Thrown out or posted are distinct possibilities unfortunately. Checked the washing basket and landing, kitchen and bathroom have been thoroughly searched. Think next step is to go through the remaining rooms with a fine toothed comb.

She’s just a cheeky scamp! It’s her birthday today so I’ll report back on disassembly of the house before the weekend.

It was the one where the dad makes up the swimming pools are fun song. That one gets played a lot.

Bare floorboards downstairs but fortunately no gaps large enough to post an iPad through!

Down the sides or back of a the sofa? Despite being big, they’re thin and stiff and can get pushed quite far down/into the sofa.

Trapped between the mattress and the bed frame?

Wow you have much more patience than I would have (IANAP), particularly since this is something that is not solely used by Funkette. Doesn't sound like this is very fair on Funk Jr. Sorry Funkette - we're going to have to put your birthday presents back because we need to buy a new iPad so Funk Jr can do their school stuff, of course if the old iPad turned up ...

Mrs_oab's work iPad, in humongous waterproof case, slipped down our old sofa. Find my iPad had it squarking away - and rolling sofa on its back revealed the iPad on the lining material. One quick cut of the under lining had it out.

Our sofa has a gap down the side of the arms that goes right down into the inside, below the springy bit under the seat cushions. TV remote was in there for weeks before we found it, along with pens, scissors, tissues, Lord Lucan, Buster Crabbe, Shergar...[you get the picture]
Could check there. I know sofas have already been done, etc.

Also, stuff that gets put in the drawers of divan beds has a tendency to fall out and be lying inside the carcass of the bed. Found no end of photos in there recently (in mine, not yours!).

Stroke of genius my Funk Jr to get out of doing homework. My second guess is its in the bathroom behind the toilet/ sink or in the cistern. Well done Funk Jr they deserve a big birthday cake for the most ingenious hiding place.

in the freezer?

Under the dog bed. 5 year olds think dogs like watching things too.

Do you have a shredder?

Crawl around the house, so your line of vison is at the same level as a 5 year old... you may see things that you have never seen before!!!

Maybe if you explain to Funkette, that she needs the ipad to watch more Waffle The Dog... she may have a sudden return of memory???

This is sooo exciting.

Two weeks? I'm going to lay odds that's gone to school/nursery/Park etc etc in a bag.

A colleague who has a child that went through a phase of hiding things then denying it, arranged for someone else to come round and see him, ask him about various missing things then tell him, quite loudly, if he couldn't keep track of a TV remote, ipod, keys etc etc, there was no way they were allowed a puppy. (obviously the procurement of a puppy is optional)

The things turned up, Christmas stocking like, overnight. What hadn't been expected was this included the missing and expensive to replace/resynch heating controller from which the battery had been removed (requiring a screwdriver the kid didn't have) after it had been set at 23°.

Turns out, the kid saw her mother hide the the heating control, so it couldn't be turned back down below sauna, then deny it and thought this was a jolly jape to play on dearest daddy...

Not going to chastise a small child over misplacing an iPad. Setting fire to the house, breaking something on purpose etc would be different. She’s five (today) not fifteen!

Like philstone I am now invested. I’d also like to suggest the gap between the top of a fridge, washing machine and the work surface as a perfect place of concealment at about 5 year olds line of sight too. floorboard gaps are surprisingly variable too. I lost a pack of figurine panini World Cup 78 stickers inside the door of our cortina estate. I wasn’t allowed to dismantle the door to retrieve it either. I’ll never know if Archie Gemmel was in there.

Does she have a toy pram with a parcel shelf underneath?

And check absolutely any bags in the house.   Our 4 year old used to copy her mum, and that seemed to involve stashing phones and keys in bags and prams

Good luck!

Been through each room logically and pulled out drawers, cupboards and any other potential hideouts. Nothing, no iPad. Mrs F didn’t set up the find function on it either, so no wonder that didn’t work! Last chance saloon is behind the shoe cupboard but it is a pita to move.
