Where have the salmon sandwiches gone?

First world problem but....usually grab a meal deal from a supermarket for lunch, and realised today that I haven't seen a good salmon sandwich for ages - plenty of tuna, prawn etc, but no salmon.

Who is eating them all?

...the 1970s called and took all their sandwiches back!! 🙂

How did mum's in the 70s make a tin of salmon feed about 12 kids!? And the bottomless meat-paste jars - where have they gone?

It's certainly not me eating them. And by using myself as a barometer of all common sense then there will be no demand from anyone for them. Simple supply and demand.

Although, with that logic there would also be no tomatoes in sandwiches but they still keep putting them in there taking over all the flavour and making the other fillings pointless.

the bottomless meat-paste jars

Still exist. Still very, very cheap. Are still never quite empty before being washed out and recycled.

Tesco stopped doing the salmon & cream cheese ones a couple of years or so ago 🙁

They haven't, I bought one just last week.  Its in the "Finest" range though so not all stores stock them.

Ah, the pastes of my childhood

Salmon and Shrimp
Sardine and Tomato...
Or Crab for a treat.

God knows what was actually in them.

They're still around. I've got some of this in the cupboard but haven't tried it yet. I think it may be best left as a childhood memory

@MoreCashThanDash - if bread and salmon is your thing then I can strongly recommend the combination of Morrisons salt and pepper baguettes (known as crack cocaine bread in our house) and their smoked salmon pate. Its like a posh, grown up version of the salmon paste butty of our youth 😀

Salmon on its own, without macerated shrimp as well? Sounds suspiciously posh. Did you make it to Glyndebourne this year?

Never got to try this, though. How bad could it be?

Hadn’t noticed salmon sandwiches tbh, I usually do my own, multi-grain bread, butter, Philadelphia cream cheese and Co-op smoked salmon, with sliced olives and black pepper.
Which reminds me, I need a couple of packs of smoked salmon.

Bloater paste looks a tad suspicious. I dare you to read the ingredients.

The marketing department for the herring industry definitely needs to up its game. Bloater sounds ripe for cancelling.

And where are the supermarket ersatz Skips hiding these days? Boggo standard prawn puffs were a guilty pleasure.
