You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Just replied on a thread about seating a crown race on a set of forks, where I used a Henry pipe. Unfortunately I dinked the end of the pipe and now it won't go back into the hoover. I have every confidence that this 'cheap fix' will indirectly cost me more than if I'd taken it to the bike shop, where they'd probably have done for free.
I also used our best chopping knife to tighten a kitchen cupboard door as I'd lost the '+' screwdriver. Snapped the blade tip, ended up buying a new knife as well as a screwdriver.
Yours???
In all honesty I think it has happened so many times that I am unable to single out an individual event. If it hasn't cost me in financial terms then it has probably cost me in skin and bone.
Putting up an internal frame and plasterboard today - rather than get a long pozi attachment for my drill driver out of the workshop, I used a 'handy' mains tester screwdriver and promptly dropped it into the newly created cavity...
Get yourself on the Numatic website, they do all the pipes as spares I think. Should be about £15-20.
99.9% of the squeaky bits on me bike use the same allen key - dropped said allen key down the floor boards at degla..
It's only a plastic pipe, shave it back to size with a [s]bread knife[/s] Stanley knife...
Guilty of doing the knife thing, really annoying as I would only have to move 20' to get the right tool 😳
Best place for a 'mains test' screwdriver....
aye daveo - there or the bin.
for your hoover - cant you just cut the end off to reveal new round pipe ?
for me - ill just change the spring on my car on the drive - save me having it recovered to a garage at $$$$
dropped the hub down to get the strutt out and emptied all the expensive gearbox oil out onto my pink (previous owner) concrete driveway......and knackered the ARB link - although it was probably already dead.....

Yep, did just that. Hacksawed a bit off and filed it down so it fits back in OK, just the total pipe length is now an inch or two shorter.
I'll tell her she must've grown.
Mog - I will tell you tonight 😉
Every company I ever worked at.
They penny pinch and scrooge their money, beat suppliers down to the point where they have no alternative but to offer a poor service, won't invest when not doing so costs a fortune in maintenance and completely ignore the feedback they get from the guys on the ground that tells them that investment will save them money in the long run.
Crazy, crazy stuff.
I remember one joke place, you had to put a full and itemised expense claim in for stamps (and this was in the days before email so everything was done by letter). This process essentially doubled the cost of every single letter sent due to the admin.
Accountants running the company instead of sensible business people, terrible situation.
Personally though, more of a solution than a fix. My wife wanted a TV in the bedroom. She said I should just buy a small PVR but I knew better. Tried one device that connected to the internet...fail, tried another that I thought was a PVR but turned out to just be a player from NAS...fail, tried another that just didn;t work and the ebay guy got abusive so I gave up...fail.
I eventually got a Raspberry in there doing what we wanted although it would have been cheaper just to buy a PVR and have done.
See? I told you we didn't need a PVR. 😉

I couldn't have put it better myself!!
Oh yes 😳
The amount of times I have come across a tricky stubborn bolt of somesort and given it a bit of extra welly only to feel it snap off in my hands or round the head :0(
Then to read in the instructions of a simple procedure to loosen.
Grub screws on linkage bolts were a favourite.
Spending time and about £10 making a chain whip rather than buying one for about £10
