Someone posted a link to Kenny Roberts' TZ750 flat tracker. King Kenny did a few laps on the bike he said "they don't pay me enough to ride" at last year's Indy Mile in Indianapolis (it was on the same weekend as the Indianapolis MotoGP round).
He was only supposed to be doing a few demo laps, as he hadn't ridden the bike for over 30 years and, as he said himself, "a quick practice on the bike would have been a waste of time. Either I'll do it or I won't, but I've got my bone doctor on standby..."
They didn't look like demo laps when he got out there. He was pretty fast. Fast enough to convince Valentino Rossi that his request, made before Kenny's ride, to have a go was maybe a little bit rash! He bottled it in the end, saying "only Kenny can ride this bike..."

Is this the greatest sounding car off all time the IMSA Audi, so fast that the yanks changed the rules to ban it
Another great clip of Ari doing his thing
anyone got a photo of Nick Manns Moggie 1000, an amazing thing, saw it at Shelsey Walsh.

FFFING SUPERB! Thanks! 🙂
Had forgotten just how good that video of Ari Vatanen in his 405 T16 going up Pikes Peak was... It's incredible!
Seeing Kenny on his TZ750 too... WOW! Hitting more than 150mph down the straights, on dirt, with no brakes! JESUS!!!
As we're onto sounds now... Here's a couple for you...

Yay, BX. Now we're talking!
wwas - that Alfa is flipping gorgeous! I love old Alfas and hate anything post 1995ish. A real shame.

A friend I was at college with worked at a engine builders and a customer had his RS200 engine on the dyno making over 650bhp when it decided to let one of its legs leave the bed! The customer sat in the corner of the dyno room crying! Engine blocks were rather hard to come by...
Bl00dy fantastic thread!!!
Alfa 155 V6 DTM car... About the most dominant (whilst it was racing) car any touring car racing series has ever seen. It pretty much cleaned up everything in 93-96!
Almost 500bhp at 12,000rpm from a 2.5 litre V6!
Nigel Mansell's 1987 Williams FW11-B... The most powerful F1 car ever!
Conservative estimate put the power at around 1000bhp in race trim, and approx 1200bhp in high boost, qualifying trim. I say conservative because these beasts, with no electronic aids, were hitting 220mph down the longest F1 circuit straights, running lots of wing on biiiiiig slicks! Some of the optimists reckon that the engine was capable of putting out as much as 1500bhp for a hot qualifying lap, but the pistons and the block would likely melt together very quickly at this output...
Mboy I had forgotten about the Alfa 155 stunning car :-).
Love the Ari clip, one of my hero's.
Also a PSA fan, having had a 309GTI, BX 16valve and an Mi16 - best handling cars in their day, bloody quick (esp. the BX 16 valve) and remarkably reliable.
Just had a look on t'web - no wonder they were so quick, barely weighed a ton!

That TZ750 video is mental
Motorbike wise - the Aprilia cube was pure evil sounding in the flesh.
Remeber lying with alcohol poisoning and sunstroke at Donnington, the sound was like no other bike on the track - oh how i want one of them for my garage.
Some great cars here...even the Toyota, but the clip of Kenny Roberts did it for me.As cool as....

Another 917, this time the 917-10 Can-Am version.

the 917-30 - this was the one that made 1200bhp in it's usual trim and was uprated to 1500+ for the successful attempt on the closed circuit record.

and saving the best 'til last, the Alfa T33

Brabham fan car....
I have this lurking in my shed
Your definition of a shed is quite different to mine! 😆
God, this thread has made me yearn for my Rally Car Top Trumps.
Ace shed - chopperT, may need a spring clean in mine now!
Sadly involved in motorsport's worst tragedy ever in 1955
Along with one I posted earlier (which IMHO is far nicer looking than the Merc.)
aracer,
POssibly so.. Both Proper racing cars unlike the ponces shite on F1 nowadays. Those mercs and Jags were doing F1 speeds with no downforce and skinny tyres. Unlike the hommers that claim they're racing drivers today.
aracer, your first pic, Lotus Type 49 commemorated by this:

and this year to celebrate the Lotus F1 team:
Exige S Type 72 - 20 to be sold in the UK representing the 20 victories of the original Type 72. Sat in one of these at the dealer in Preston whilst getting some work done to my Elise - looks even better in the flesh...

A normally aspirated 2.5 v6 at that! 😯
I always liked the look of these 2. The Beta montecarlo had a turbocharged 1.4 (yes you read it right) and was also rather successful (provided it didn't blow away with a large gust of wind.)

Colin Chapman will be spinning in his grave.
Tyrrell P34
I already did one of those 😉
Wheres the MP4 4 with senna at the wheel??
Wheres the MP4 4 with senna at the wheel??
I don't like the colour scheme of that one.
Classic Mclaren in the style of a cigarette packet- surely every 70's born child's dream machine!?
werent all the 70's 6 wheeler experiments crap though?
Beamers - so did I but blue and white!
Tyrrel's factory was just down the road from where we lived - often hung around and picked up scrap bits exotic materials. What a sad git!
oooh March 6 wheeler - I had a Scalextric one of those:
When I said "had" I obviously meant "have got". Not seen the light of day for some years but it will rise again when the Beamlet shows the slightest bit of interest in the concept of Scalextric.
Plenty of Lancia's early on, but nobody put up an Integrale!
The very first pic on this thread is of a Delta!
Anyway yours isn't a racing car so it's rubbish. 😉
My first IC powered Radio Controlled car was one of those Fina Mclaren F1's even that went like sh1t off a shovel.
Strange how Alfa/Guigaro just entirely forgot the indictators (forgiveable) and wing mirrors (not) when designing the 33, until the very last possible moment.
I suspect the same happened with the entire electrical system on my 156.
