Is it next Friday ?
Im actually getting a bit sick of this extended black friday nonsense. Deals that for the most part are not deals at all.
Priced at a higher price for a whole month.
Example - Im looking for a new TV. I've been sending time researching this and that and have a good idea of the price of each.
Now im seeing the same TV's purportedly as being part of the Black Friday deals, but at the same price they were 2 months ago.
So If theres a day it starts I can actually visit the stores on, otherwise it all seems pretty pointless.
It's the day after Thanksgiving, so next week if you're a traditionalist
Decent TVs have a tendency to get more expensive over black friday (certainly cashback/combo deals disappear). I was looking at Samsung OLEDs and the best deals stopped in early November. I assume they will stay high until after the christmas/the world cup.
It starts too early and lasts too long but as it's a way of clearing old and/or excess stock retailers will run it until they or their suppliers have shifted the stock they want to offload.
There are few true bargains.
Why should the TV you want be cheaper for a random Friday? It stands to reason they'll be the same price as last time in the sale, shops aren't charities

I reckon thats why its called black Friday, and not black November.
I posted an almost identical thread to this the year before last or so.
My conclusion was if buying expensive stuff, you will get it cheaper prob mid December or late Jan/Feb when there is no mention of sales
If sales are mentioned it won’t be cheaper
Started a month ago, I am after 2 specific things so monitored prices since summer. Prices actually went up, emailed supplier direct, got a better price. Indie shops don't want to advertise best prices.
There’s still no such thing as a free lunch
It's must a name.... retailers have been upping prices to then discount and claim its a sale as long as I remember.
As a specific date, it was the day after Thanksgiving (which is a Thursday) and most Americans just take the Friday off for a long weekend so the shops had it as a sale day, designed (originally) for in person shopping.
It's since grown to become an all-encompassing consumer frenzy lasting most of November and moving seamlessly into Christmas shopping.
I was getting the first Black Friday emails around Bonfire Night. 😳
It goes on forever, doesn't it? And it's related to a festival we don't actually celebrate. /rant
It was nice to get an email from Islabikes which essentially said 'we aren't playing'
15 seconds into the 1st of November when Halloween is over?
Boxing day sales -》 Valentine's day -》 Mothers Day-》 Easter -》 Fathers Day -》 Summer holidays -》 Back to school -》 Hallowen -》 Black Friday -》 Christmas.
All with some overlap and a few 'Mid Season' sales thrown in. All too early, want Christmas lights, need to buy mid November, want patio furniture, need to buy at Easter, summer clothes, better get your wallet out whilst there is snow on the ground, back to school stuff, the day after the break up.
Ignore it all do your comparisons, watch the prices, let the hard of thinking be duped.
ach well, I think i should just resign myself to paying top price and hope maybe installation or money off a soundbar or other accessory is put forward as a sweetener.

and the reason it’s ‘Black Friday’ is due to the scrums, stampedes and deaths that happened in the desperate rush to get a cheap TV.
