When do you wash (Shower or bath)

After spending a weekend with a chum (at the Nurburgring, broom broom), a conversation came up about when do you shower.

I shower in the evening. Get home from work, dinner, spend time with the youngest and when she is in bed, into the shower, comfy clothes on, chill for the evening.

My buddy showers first thing in the morning. Fresh for the day.

And he couldn't get his head round showering in the evening. My argument was i am 'dirty' from a days work, and like to get into bed clean. Whereas he was happy to start the day clean, then get into bed 'dirty'.

Anywho, out of total curiosity, when do you shower (or bath).....?

A) Evening

B) Morning

C) whenever you feel you need it

D) washing... pah, not often!

Thanks in advance 🙂

A, sometimes b, & certainly c.

A morning without a shower is worse than one without coffee

Always first thing in the morning. I don't really get dirty at work anymore so I'll only shower after a ride or sweaty activities.

Sometimes, just sometimes, I'll think Eff the gas bill and have a bath on an evening.

Every morning (unless straight out for a ride/run).

Plus after a ride/run/decorating/other mucky activities.

I shower when I need it, i.e. after some activity that gets me sweaty or dirty, or just because I feel I want/need a shower. I don't shower every day* because sometimes you don't need a shower.

A shower in the morning is nice as it makes you feel awake, but a shower in the evening is nice as well, as going to bed all clean and fresh is nice....

*I do at the moment cos I'm doing the 100 days to christmas thing.

Shower every morning. It just wakes me up.

I don't get dirty enough to need to shower in an evening, unless I've been doing some DIY or we are going out.

Every morning (unless camping and then it's like never).

I think depends on peoples jobs a bit. Manual workers I know are more likely to shower after work or in the evening. Desk jockeys like me seem to shower more in the mornings. Sweeping generalisation but just what I have heard from my social group.

Every morning. Either immediately, or after a run/ride depending on the day.

Occasionally need to set alarm for 6 for a london 8am call time job in which case I'll shower the evening before, because usually takes me 20 mins to actually get out of bed anyway, by which time I need to start walking to the train!!

Then after training sessions most evenings I'll have a quick one (like 1min in-out - mostly because the last thing I want to be doing is showering!) so I don't feel grim all night. Sometimes don't bother though, let the sweat dry then just get back into comfy clothes - but I play that one by nose.

NOT in the morning. When I need it, so after exercise or at the end of the (working) day

In the evening for me as from when I was a kid I always had a bath/shower in the evening.

Will sometimes have a shower in the morning if I feel like crap.

Oh and always after exercise or doing a proper dirty job.

Evening of course, otherwise you lie in bed with the stink of the day on you and wake up stinky. Evening + clean bed = no need to shower in the morning (though I occasionally do)

Always in the morning, if I have done something strenuous or it has been a hot day also in the evening, so I probably shower twice a day more than not. Sometimes I also shower to wash away the sin of killing, and of course the blood.

Morning. Unless I've ridden the previous evening and will then have showered after the ride. No shower this morning as I had one at 10PM last night. I also have a tepid shower before bed when it's been hot, just to cool down and rinse off the day's perspiration.

When I was "properly" working, I would shower after my shift and before my meal.

Now I don't do much physical work as such, only when I need it.

As others have pointed out, you don't need to shower everyday if your not getting hot and sweaty.

Every morning without fail.
Every evening after I’ve been to the gym / been on a ride (so about 5 times a week I shower evening and morning)

Even though I work in an office I still get “warm” so like an evening shower as wellz

Mornings I have my routines. I have to do certain tasks in order, showering is one of them. It’s a bit of an OCD thing I’m told - drives my partner mad as I can’t budge on my routine and when I do it properly stresses me.

Follow up question - how often do you change your bed sheets and pillow cases?  I am at least weekly, sometimes more in summer.  And don't start me on sleeping right under the duvet with no top sheet like an animal, and hardly ever changing the cover.  Gross.

No point showering at all to get into filthy sheets.

First thing in the morning.
Then after exercise which is sometimes lunchtime, sometimes evening, sometimes both.
But, if exercise is planned first thing (I run most Sundays at 8am) I won't shower before that, mainly as it gives me an extra 5 mins in bed.

Always morning after exercise. If at home it’s a cold outside shower.

After work I shower if I’ve commuted as that’s a guaranteed sweat fest. Or if it’s warm jump in the pool.

Exercise every day, pretty much, so after that. Hardly ever in the morning. 2 showers a day would dry my skin out. Not that I have a problem with the stinky suckers that need to 😀

We don't all need to shower the same amount through life...

Whilst small boys' bedrooms can smell like hamster cages if left, adolescent boys' bedrooms smell like, jesus christ, lynx africa and heavy heavy sweaty hormones. No wonder they wash so frequently and spend so long in the bathroom.

I know folks my age who still shower maybe three times a day - every morning, after exercise, for the evening. I used to shower a lot more but these days probably every other morning alternating with a pretty thorough wash, or night before an early start with a cat's lick in the morning.

Absolutely cba if going to the pub after a bike ride, or even after surfing unless I've taken my wettie off in the shower (best way in winter). That's clean sweat that is. And has the same effect as Lynx Africa, I find...

Evening.

I want to go to bed clean. Whether I have been doing manual or desk work I will be dirty to some extent. Keep bed nicer for longer and also means I am ready for knooky.

I can understand being fresh and woken up in the morning but I can't understand going to bed dirty.

Not having a shower in the morning, especially in the summer months, is just dirty and you will without question stink after a hot sweaty night in bed.

Also, what do you do if you and your partner get frisky?  Its not a topic most will feel comfortable discussing but that would just be gopping, getting dressed and off to work you go smelling like a brothel.

This summer in shops etc I had the misfortune to encounter a lot of people who smelt like they slept in a bin in 40 degree heat.

Usually in the morning, if I know I'm working at home and will be riding/running at lunch then I'll wait until after that (and shove a cap on to cover the bed hair for the school run!)

Very rarely in the evening as I don't want to risk waking the kids up and I'll need a morning shower anyway unless I'm staying home all day (see above)

What are the bedroom curtains for? Or if you have venetian blinds I guess you could wipe it on yesteday's socks?

(Or check mumsnet thread "penis beaker". I understand they're a bit ruder than on here, mind)

I don't have a routine. I'll have a shower or a bath if I feel like it, could be morning, during the day or in the evening as the mood takes me.

I do have a strip wash at the sink every morning, probably a side-effect of being brought up in part by grandparents.

Yes, is my answer to showering.

In the morning? Yes.

In the evening? Yes.

Sometimes have an evening bath if I feel like it or my body is feeling a bit battered.

I tend to exercise most evenings, be it either the gym, swimming or cycling.

I don't think I overly wash myself or my clothes but when I've been away with groups of men, I'm often surprised how little they wash and would wear the same clothes for multiple days. I totally understand wearing things like jeans, jumpers and hoodies multiple times between washing but I only wear my t-shirts, pants and socks once before washing them, as these are next to the skin so get a bit sweaty.

This obviously goes out the window when I'm bikepacking, where I happily wear the same stinky clothes for a couple of days with just me only washing myself in a passing stream.

Another bugbear of mine, is people who wear shoes in the house, just why? Seems pretty grim to me.

B otherwise I feel like crap then C depending on what ive been doing.  Its the main prohibitor for doing anything multi day that doesnt have a proper way of washing.

When ever I've tried to not shower in the morning I regret it.

For the record - wake up to a shower to be clean for the day.
Sweaty day / physical activity - likely another shower in evening.

Routinely in the evening. You can't really get dirty lying in bed, which is also the place I least want to take the day's grime 😀

And also after a ride (including after my commute in the shower at work)

Every morning with fail. Of an evening if I’ve exercised or feel like it. I’m an office drone so don’t really get dirty or grimy throughout the day. Plus I have this amazing barrier to grime and dirt known as clothing!

Freely admit to only changing the bed clothes when it dawns on me that it needs doing. I don’t live in a ****ing hotel so it’s only my own sweat and juices I’m steeped in.

My granddad would get out of the bath to wash his face. His reasoning being “I’m not washing mi face in’t same wata mi arse has been in” a great Yorkshireman

After exercise.

If I’m injured or ill such that I can’t exercise, it’s always a bit of a mystery to me as to when to get clean!

Interested to know if the evening showerers are manual workers or office based

I'm an office monkey and even with working from home by myself long before the pandemic, I'm a morning showerer every single day and an evening shower after exercise or post ride at the weekend.

Evenings usually after tea or post ride. Work in the building trade so tend to get home smelling like graft. Do like a morning shower when I'm on my hols though.

Couple of times a week, but then I dont do much to get filthy, and I change my clothing near daily.

One thing I do like is just sitting in the shower, and I'll happily sit in there for an hour. I have always liked sitting in the rain, so must be related to that.

Anyone wear their socks in the shower ?.

When do you wash (Shower or bath)

Once I'm 'on the clock'! Nowt better than getting paid* to complete the 3 Ss 😁 (*when WFH. Tbf they get enough of my time for free anyway.)

I'm a morning person more often than not, and if commuting into the office by bike, will shower before getting ready, quick freshen shower once at work, then another brief freshen on getting home.

Totally agree.
Another thing that surprised me during lock down , when video calling friends was people wearing outdoor clothes indoors.
As soon as I get in from work , I shower and change into slobby clothes. Wearing jeans indoors seems silly.
I couldn’t leave the house in joggers though ,so I have to put outdoor clothes on.
This also leads me to not to be able to compute having to put outdoor clothes on when we have friends over for dinner. We need an intermediate trouser between jaggy bots and jeans.
Another instance is being upstairs in a hotel and having to put outdoor shoes on to walk down carpets indoors to a dining room that’s indoors.

Hmm same here or the bidet if it’s not first thing, they are great bidets another thing I don’t get why people have no love for although they’ll happily spend x on wet wipes to get that dish washer freshness 🙂

Just had a morning shower as in a hotel and long day at work ahead. Normally see a morning shower as a treat/ desperate measure to wake up or feel better.

Generally just an evening shower post exercise, but flexible if I showered in the AM I don’t feel the need to shower twice a day having sat at a desk.
