Today at the Grassmarket in Edinburgh I was putting my youngest into his car seat. This necessitated me having the car door open which in turn meant that anyone coming down this side of the road would need to wait until there was space for them - fair enough in a reasonable world. Why then did some imbecile decide it socially acceptable to skid to a stop and blast their horn, then start shouting at me to get out of the way?
I hate ignorant people - can we have a cull - please?
Thatchers fault
I think it was about the time that that dude on the bike didn't pull in to let you past on a single track road. Last year some time if memory serves. 😉
If you're stupid enough to put a young child into a car seat on the 'road' side...
barry bethel - two kids - what do you suggest?
Perhaps you could have a word with Resin42 who's getting impatient with kids on trails on another thread.
don't put your kids in danger? I have two kids and would never dream of going onto the road side. Put them both in from the pavement side, 1 after the other.
I'm with goan on this one. So what if the other driver had to wait for a few seconds so he/she could pull out beyond the car door? What's the goddamn rush?
Sorry Goan didnt recognise you.Joke.
Last year one of my elderley customers had a heart attack, paramedics arrived,as did the mercedes ambulance,Bily was on the floor, when a young lad from up the road came in and asked how long they where going to be as he needed to go to Mcburgers for a burger for breakfast, and he couldnt get his car out on the terraced street.
Billy being 89,told him where to shove his burger, luckily he made a full recovery, not sure about the burger though.
Blair's fault.

😉
But yeah, no need for skidding, horn and abuse
BB - So i should leave a kid to run about on the pavement while I mess about trying to get a kid across three seats. Doesn't sound like the safest option to me.
?
So how do you do it currently? You are making no sense as ****ing usual.
I hold onto one while i put the other into the car, close the door then go round the other side and put the other one in - what is so difficult to understand?
i.e. what do you do with kid 2 currently when you are putting kid 1 in seat?
I'm guessing this is more of your usual bullshit, halfarsed lame, attention seeking trolling. Well done big man.
EDIT: Read your response. Doesn't add up. Nice try.
when im King you'll need a license to procreate anyway, so appreciate what youve got rather than whinge about minor annoyances in life?
also why do people meander in shops, i nearly hulked out at the line of people across the entire of the front door of tescos who didnt want to out in the rain incase they got mildly moist.
the place started going to the dogs in about 750bc. one of the ancient Greek philosophers wrote about the youth of today having no respect etc etc etc....
I'll tell you what I do when they have a tantrum - that may be more helpful in this instance. I ignore them.
Barry is right - you should know this as an expert driver and road safety expert.
Never ever put kids in a car from the road side.
And what makes you an expert on road safety TJ?
I think it was someone had a fight at a zoo. 😆
I'm with Barry...... Roads are for cars and I wouldn't want my kid there. You may be holding onto them but there are some idiots about.
And two kids from one side of the car is not difficult....
Nice troll though, you can go back under your bridge now 🙂
barry bethel are your kids never going to go on a road... at what age is suitable... i find you highly ****ing frustrating that you would pass judgement like that onto someone about keeping their children safe. i put both my children in on the pavement side then walk round to the road side open the door and fasten them in. so the arsehole beeping wouldnt have been avoided. also when the roads are reasonably quite i think its important that my children learn how to behave when on a road and understand the dangers. i think they will be SAFER for it. so go enjoy yourself on your high horse covered in bubble wrap. arse.
This thread should provide a bit of entertainment this evening!
stompy - says a lot about road attitudes that.
I am not stupid enough to do what you do. You claim to be a road safety expert yet what you are doing here is clearly dangerous and inconsiderate and specifically against the usual advice.
But of course the cyclist hassling expert driver trolling zoofighter is always correct even when his position is indefensible
??? Don't quite get what you mean by that Goan.........
^ whoever is rambling on up there. I don't really care what you think.
Goan/Smee/Glupton/Trollingzoofighter started this thread to get the usual predictable replies. I obliged [i]because it was him[/i].
i'll ignore the arse comment, because I don't know who you are - therefore cannot be offended.
Highway code
Parking
239............................
* it is safer for your passengers (especially children) to get out of the vehicle on the side next to the kerb
..........................
One would assume that would apply to them getting in to the car as well
TJ - it may well be safer, but that doesn't make it compulsory. It is the responsibility of any driver to take note of what is going on around them. People [i]do[/i] get in and out of cars on the off-side, so it's hardly unexpected to have to pull out around an open car door or to wait until said door closes.

Highway code
Like the Bible, you can twist that pish to say anything you want 😉
Highway Code:
"...
Rules for cyclists
(59-82).........You should wear:
a cycle helmet which conforms to current regulations... "
Stompy - If roads are for cars why do they have to be licensed to use them, when pedestrians and cyclists amongst others have a right to use them?
TJ - of course its safer to get out on the kerb side, pretty obvious that one. Sometimes it just isn't practical though and getting in from the road side is the safest option.
What if it had been a wheelchair bound driver getting into the car instead?
I would of just taken a bit longer to strap my child in, and made the driver wait then given him a big smile..thats boud to wind him/her up. Yes you can have a Cull. Who else do we put against the wall.
I'm with the OP. I take as long as I take to put the kids in the car and people have to wait the 30 seconds odd.
Blow them a kiss that always works.
If roads are for cars why do they have to be licensed to use them, when pedestrians and cyclists amongst others have a right to use them?
Because vehicles are slightly more dangerous than humans or cyclists and are therefore confined to roads thus separating pedestrians and vehicles with a clearly defined boundary. You would not walk on the road needlessly when there was a perfectly suitable path.
Anyway my point was that there are some idiots on the road so why put yourselves in their path needlessly??
Absolutly Druidh. the driver behind was being a cock as well. It takes two cocks to cause a rammy. Avoidance of risk seems reasonable
Goan - why not avoid risk and inconvenience when possible? Can yu not see the hypocrisy with this thread and your attitude to the cyclist who blocked you off on a singletrack road?
Vehicles are not dangerous though, they only do what people tell them to do. And where do cyclists fit in?
TJ - Not practical to try and avoid it in this case as i have already said - repeatedly.
No hypocrisy at all - care to explain why you think there is?
It is perfectly possible to put both kids in the car from one side - other parents manage this and it is clearly best practice.
You are upset that someone got cross because you held him up for a few seconds.
On the cyclist thread you got cross because a cyclist held you up for a few seconds. IIRC blowing your horn at him then forcing your way past.
How hypocritical is that.
You really need some anger management
after a few months of being a regular hear i have come to realise that its just the same miserable buggers moaning all the time about the same things in the same anal way, living life through the rule book.dear god.
Wow - STW in support of the car driver shocker.
nonk - aimed at me or Goan? I don't moan I don't think
I think it was about the time that that dude on the bike didn't pull in to let you past on a single track road. Last year some time if memory serves.
I had the exact same thought when I first read the thread so can only echo what BD is saying here - have a read back through some of your posts dude (I wasn't aware you'd had [i][b]that[/b][/i] many soubriquets) - you don't exactly display massive amounts of patience yourself.
the whole bloody lot of you tj. christ on a bike man quoting the highway code etc get out more.
Tj - In some cases it may be possible for some people to put their kids into their car from one side - in this one it wasn't.
I am not upset at anybody - amused at their stress levels yes, upset - life's too short. As for the guy on the bike well he was being deliberately obstructive, he had the choice to move over into the passing place (3 of them) but decided not to.
DD - I am very patient, just don't suffer fools gladly.
Nonk - fair do! Bang to rights and all that.
DD - I am very patient, just don't suffer fools gladly.
Errrrmmmm - one or the other - you cannot be both
bit that confuses me is that it seems that the people with the faster means of getting from A to B are the less patient and have rights by virtue of size and weight
-also what i'd like to know is what are all the important things people who don't have any patience are doing? and why don't they all get out of bed 5 minutes earlier and what the f' do they all do when they get home?
Erm TJ - yes you can.
Pieface - funny that. 😉
I don't moan I don't think
You didn't miss a comma out did you? 😉
We put our kids into the car from the road side all the time. You can't easily properly fasten a kid into a car seat from the opposite side of the car.
BB - So i should leave a kid to run about on the pavement while I mess about trying to get a kid across three seats. Doesn't sound like the safest option to me.
nope, but close! - with 2 kids in the rear seats of a 5 seater you should always have the youngest child in the rear passenger seat and the older one in the driver side, you should always park passenger side to the kerb and you should always put both kids in from the pavement side. you should haved child locks on the rear doors, you should strap the youngest in first while the eldest either straps themselves in (as long as you check they've done it properly) or you lean across to strap them in after the youngest. no excuses! you can't fit across the rear seats? - move the passenger seat forward or look for a more apropriate space!
if the youngest child is in a buggy/pram you can leave them perfectly safely on the pavement by the car until the older one is buckled in properly. common sense FFS!!
GW - but what if the oldest wouldn't fit in the seat behind the driver's seat, due to the size of the driver. And this is edinburgh we're talking about - there is only one space.
GW...you missed the bit about using your knee to hold the sprogs in place when they arch their back and don't want to be strapped in! 8)
You don't live in Brizzle do you?
Can't find it now but there was a case recently of someone forcing their way past injuring mother and child.
I was appalled that the majority of the comments blamed the mother. As in this case, whatever the circumstances, the onus is of course on the driver to stop and wait, patiently.
Yes it's sensible to get the kids to climb out kerb side, no it's not always possible. Hence the Highway code rule is advice (you should) not the Law (you must)
[i]Why then did some imbecile decide it socially acceptable to skid to a stop and blast their horn, then start shouting at me to get out of the way? [/i]
So what was your reaction?
And anyone got a link to this 'Cyclist on a single-track road' thread?
My reaction was to ignore them.
massive highjack. did tj work in a prison at one time?
Having been scowled at by the OP for daring to hold up a driving lesson for all of 20 seconds, I'm thinking about the respective colours of pots and kettles.
just how little common sense do you have Glupton? 🙄
http://www.singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/beardy-cyclist There you go AnalogueAndy.
Crikey - your mate was scowled at because he was riding along with his head up his jacksie and rode straight past a passing place... No pots, no kettles and no black there.
GW - I have plenty common sense. And know how to use the edit feature too...
just how little? - "loads"? 😕
case closed!
TJ as you dont own a car or have kids what are you giving advice?
Isn't Goan supposed to be out on the trails being inconsiderate and impatient when he's pwning full suss riders on his SS?
Whatever, our memories must differ, there was only one impatient person there tho, and he was in the passenger seat.
Poor troll...
Did you know that 'Sup gentelman goo' is an anagram of smee/goan/glupton?
😯
Crikey that's convenient for you isnt it. They were from somewhere in north america if i remember correctly
Not practical to try and avoid it in this case as i have already said - repeatedly.
Well I have nto read further this quote, so you will apologies if someone already posted that, but I think that if you can't manage 2 kids while you put them in your car it is time you seek guidance.

Damp under bridges in the tweed valley at the mo? One if them was from the US, the rest from the UK...
juan - MemberWell I have nto read further this quote, so you will apologies if someone already posted that, but I think that if you can't manage 2 kids while you put them in your car it is time you seek guidance.
...and you speak from personal experience?
I think Goan was doing what good parents do - looking after their children, I would like to know what the % is of the voices on this topic have actually got children.
Children are notoriously single minded, especially when parents are distracted - so by ensuring that both children were safe then if it took all day to put the child into its car seat then so be it.
The impatient driver was in the wrong - does he blast his/her horn at people on zebra crossings as well - what a **** --
having neither children nor car seats, and having not been a child small enough to require a car seat for quite a while, would it not be possible to have both car seats on the passengers side, one in the front, one in the back, thereby making the necessity of taking a child onto the road side redundant?
I've got three kids, and its a troll.
Goans point was not so much about putting his child in the car seat anyway - this probably takes seconds anyway if all the straps are easily adjusted. WHAT the point was is why is it necessary to display anger over a few seconds of delay - its no worse than a lollipop lady in the road, someone pushing a pram across the road, an old lady / man crossing the road.. this happens, its no problem unless you are a getaway driver on a bank heist... The world needs to slow down.. the only clock that really matters is tickin behind your ribs -
Methinks someone has the wrong user name 😆
Methinks someone has the wrong user name
Its sounds like me.. but that name is because no matter how hard I ride, my mates are always faster 😉
I've got a couple of these in the back of my car
The leg makes getting across the backseats somewhat tricky. Sure we could probably teach the eldest to climb across but all the smartarses who think they have all the answers should try looking beyond their own circumstances.
I change car because it was almost impossible to put em both in from one side especially when they were smaller so i can see where the OP comes from, but like I said I bought something more practical partly for this reason.
