Because there is a large Tesco quite close to me, and because it is one of the only shops that has sold Cycling Weekly, I have frequented it for the last couple of years.
The last issue they sold, however, was the Giro Preview edition this year. As of a few weeks ago, then, they have stopped carrying it. I know this because I asked.
I have a hard time believing it's because it sold less than other, similar magazines, considering I have been able to observe sales by shelf presence quite consistently for a few years. So why would they stop selling it? And is there anything a customer can do?
I will subscribe if I have to, but it is hard to rationalise a subscription when I am away many weeks of the year, and do not generally have time to read every issue every week. I probably average about one purchase every two weeks - almost every week during the Classics and the tours; fewer in the off-season.
In the meantime, AFAIK, there are no other sellers local to me.

STW had an explanation post, which I think went to a ridiculous business model where they had to supply a huge number of mags over the number sold so the costs were stupid.
Any newsagent would get it for you. They'd even deliver it.
It's not directly tesco who dictate which magazines they stock, rather it'll either be Menzies or Wh Smith who supply them. This is controlled by an algorithms which allocate space on the shelves vrs copies sold and profit generated.
So if they only sell 1 or 2 copies a week they'll replace it for another mag which sells more.
Much like any any local newsagents, Tesco can however directly order magazines in for you, ask at customer services or either the gm manager or the manager in charge of the section. I'd have thought you'd pick up from customer services?
Readly - £7.99 a month and never miss an issue. They're doing three months for £7.99 at the moment.

Why do you believe that any large retailer makes decisions based on anything other than huge volumes of data? Do you think they should have to dedicate cost to stocking the mag on the weeks you don't buy it? Presumably there aren't enough other people who happen to buy it on the weeks you are away to smooth out the troughs. Have you considered an electronic subscription - then you can read it even when travelling.
