I started getting back into skating briefly last summer then stopped because winter. Thinking about dragging it out again now as there's a decentish park 15 minutes walk from work and I can go play on a morning.
What size wheels does anyone run? I currently have 53mm which feel like they get hung up on the tiniest imperfection. Fine in the park, but a pain trying to get there. Would I notice much of a difference going up to say 60mm? Downsides? I'd probably pop some risers on to avoid too much wheel bite.
And you thought a couple of inches from 26 to 27.5 was tiny...
65mm abec 11 wheels (not bearings) 60mm bones spf
Never been able to understand the use of stupid little wheels on boards, they stall on tiny little obstructions, and are slower because of the smaller circumference; I used to use 70mm Krypton and Bones wheels, but  they would stall on the joints in paving slabs, so the teeny ones must be worse, really only good on smooth parks.
54s, hard, white. Lighter , feels faster, less noticeable when you hard spot them, lock on rails good. 55 acceptable too. Nothing else 👌🏻
Might try some bigger ones then and see how it goes... Least skate stuff is a bit cheaper than bikes!
Go for 55mm at maximum, if you go much bigger it will be harder in the park. You could also consider going for a softer duromiter which takes bumps and cracks easier which mean you can still run 53mm.
There's no reason I'm running 53 at the moment really other than it was the biggest size I could get cheap at the time! They feel great in the park but a bit sketchy on crappy roads and pavements, but I dunno whether an extra few mm would make *that* much difference to that.
Extra few mm will make less difference than a lower durometer in my experience.
similar situation here. Been running some 54mm 92a ricta clouds which are OK in the park and slideable but roll much better than 54mm 101a on the rough stuff.
That brings back memories of teenage years. Cutting about town on a skateboard as means of transportation. Hitting the tinyest, singular bit of gravel then being catapulted off the board and unceremoniously crumpling to the floor...
I run santa cruz slime balls 56mm 97a.. (theyve re made them but narrower than the originals) they are a great all round wheel and really nice on smoother surfaces.
