Is it just me or is the WhatApps Windows app complete garbage - the vertical scroll bars seem to be completely useless? They're visible, but when I try to use them all I can do is resize the window.

Why can't I scroll the window as per the normal way!

Do you mean the Chrome plugin? Not had any issues with that. I haven't seen a proper standalone windows one.

Just installed the Windows Desktop app. Scrolling works fine, both 'grabbing' the slider and using the touchpad two finger technique.

I don’t think I’ve actually used it enough to need to scroll (I hardly ever sit infront of a computer), but mine’s a bit slow to respond at times but otherwise seems to work well.

Thanks for the replies. Perhaps just me then - but the vertical scrollbar seems to be completely useless i.e. I can't use it to scroll vertically 🤣 When I hover near it, I'm not able to "grab" it and then move it. Difficult to describe 🤣

I just use the browser based. I did try the native window app a few years ago and it wasn't great then. No advantage over the browser.

This happens to me sometimes on the Mac desktop app, not all the time though - seemingly at random and works normally again after a while. Not very scientific I know but it's never lasted long enough to really bother me.

I found the Mac WhatsApp app awful a while back. Figured it might be better now. Downloaded it. Not great, but worked ok for a few days then wanted its ‘helper’ apps installed. No doubt later it would’ve invited Mark, Nick, and the rest of the gang over to hog more resources. Deleted. WhatsApp only on the phone now. And that under sufferance. Browser-based? No thanks.

The browser based app works well so I don't see the point in downloading anything.

I use the windows download on a desktop PC and everything is fine but that is because I use the scroll wheel on my mouse to scroll. I just tried to use the scroll bar on the side, never noticed before, and I can't grab it either. It just wants to try tot resize.

Thanks all, I'll try the browser-based app.

Cheers, so it's not just me then 🙂 Not quite sure why they've added a scroll bar that can't be scrolled 🤣

Fine here. I don't mean to state the blindingly obvious but if it's trying to resize, move the mouse a couple of mm to the left?

I have no idea whether it's related, but by default Windows auto-hides the scroll bars. You can turn this off in the Accessibility settings, I always do because it's stupid.

Using my desktop - and a mouse - and can select (just) the scrollbar - but there's a really narrow amount of area between the main window and it changing to the resize pointer. Using a touchpad on a laptop - no chance!

Done that but no difference. But I'm leaving it off as I much prefer seeing the scrollbars rather than hidden away 👍

I think this may be dependent on the hardware, but a lot of trackpads support two-finger scrolling. Alternatively, dragging the very edge of the pad may work.

Page Up / Down will always work too, ofc.

I use the Windows app. I thought I could reproduce your problem when the scroll box (which I just discovered is called the thumb) is right at the bottom of the bar. But then I tried again and I was able to grab it, although the grabable area is only a couple of pixels wide. Looks like they've used a non-standard UI library and it's just a bit pants.
