this is my choice [img] [/img]

i love all of pink floyd's music, but this album resonates with me the most (partly i think due to suffering with long term depression/anxiety issues).

i can relate to the feelings of isolation that some of the album has (also anger).

along with the downward spiral (nine inch nails),this album most conveys what it feels like musically to suffer with mental illness/anger to me anyway.just a fantastic concept album. i still need to watch the film someday though.

Easily Darkside. The high point of music making. Still fresh and amazing 40 years later. Any long car journey starts with it.
In one of the radio Caroline books one of the DJs recounts how there was a massive barney going on onboard the ship. So he stuck Darkside on and everyone just got over the argument and chilled out.

Dark side of the moon, listening to it while in a college hostel, TIME came on loud bells ringing, one of the lads pannicked and thought the place was on fire and ran out screaming FIRE, FIRE, as he thought it was the fire alarm going off.

Album alone it would have to be Wish You Were Here, an 11th birthday present from my sister, so on emotional tie in it's that one. Dark Side of the Moon has one of my favourite tracks, Time, and so has Animals, with Dogs, but the ultimate has just got to be Comfortably Numb, the live version on Pulse.

Dark Side probably, but most of my formative years were spent watching the Delicate Sound of Thunder video through a haze of smoke so that's the one for me. Saw them at Earls Court on the Pulse tour, best I've ever been to.

Dark side, I really like meddle too, with echoes on it, you can hear the birth of dark side in that track.

Just to point out Echoes is a track, albeit a complete side, from the album Meddle.

I am struggling to choose a favourite album, though if I were going to put one on right now I'd probably go for Animals. I haven't listened to that for a while .

Division Bell for me cos I saw them do it at Earls Court in 1994, don't have a particular fave (other) album as I like various tracks from all of them!

Spooky - I was just about to put a momentary lapse of reason too - I also really like the division bell as well.
Pulse and delicate sound of thunder are cracking live albums too.

I'm amazed a votes for Animals. i don't remember it but I remember not being impressed. I thought even Roger waters wasn't keen. As for the pre wall stuff like PATGOD. No I wouldn't put that on now

At varioous times its The wall, DSOFTM or WYWH

despite my negative comments they are my all time favoutite band

Tried to explain them to my son. He says thats its all clever marketing. But he can play Wish You were Here on the guitar really well. I can't strum a note.....

WYWH - for a few reasons tied up with my childhood

I recently took possession of my step-father's vinyl copy - the one I listened to as a kid, both from the vinyl and via a copy I made on a C60

listening to it again is so comforting - i think I know all the crackles. My CD copy just wasn't the same

Obscured By Clouds and The Wall. But most have songs I like on them probably why I like the Pulse album with the added bounus I saw Division Bell live.

Dark Side OF THE MOON
I got it for my 13th birthday in May 1973
I didn't really understand it at the time and neither did my folks, but love it to this day.

The Wall, by far.

Followed by Wish You Were Here & Animals.

DSOTM leaves me cold - none of the depth of The Wall, none of the tunes of WYWH.

Probably another WYWH vote here. I really like the final cut, but when you think about it the other "big hitters" tend to edge in front.

P. S. Also saw the division bell in '94, Roger Waters play all of dsom, and the new Roger Waters tour at the O2 on the night Dave Gilmour rocked up to join in with comfortably numb last year (tear in eye moment).

Meddle probably edges Dark Side for me but the live recording side of Ummagumma is up there too. The rest of that album is pap though.

Too late chap as it had been mentioned once before. I really like it, but I find Dogs of War a bit pants to be honest.

If forced to choose one then it would be Division Bell.

Wish You Were Here.
Animals.
Call me a weirdo, but I never really liked Dark Side.
The Wall was the soundtrack to my student years. Loved it. The film was one of my faves and I saw it at a midnight screening once. Awesome on the big screen. The actor who play's Pink's father lives 50yds from me coincidentally.

Listened to A Momentary Lapse Of Reason for the first time in years just the other week. Forgot how good it was. Flawed, but not bad. Not bad at all.

Also listened to the Final Cut for the first time in years just the other week, too. A more bleak, self-indulgent album you'd be hard-pressed to find.

Delicate sound of thunder for me too, nice mix of good tracks, the comfortably numb solo is better than on Pulse too.

David Gilmour live in gdansk is also good

Ha! All you prog rock miserablists - none of the above (with the possible exception of Ummagumma). It has to be Piper at the Gates of Dawn. Pure psychedelic brilliance combined with English whimsy. Syd in full flight before he became the effervescing elephant. Without Syd Barrett PF became ponderous humourless beasties - sort of in character for Waters and Gilmour.

I interviewed the Floyd circa 1971 for my college paper - not very nice. Arrogant, sneering, bored. Now the Incredible String Band, on the other hand.......

Meddle, I just did not get Pink Flyod till I listened to Echoes in full as part of a surf documetry (crystal waves I think) amazing underwater photography.

Echoes. It's all good though .

Blasphemy! It's all over the shop!

DSOTM/ WYWH - hard to make a call between the two. Thing is, among Floyd fans, what's the next album to go to? The Wall is a bit more... bombastic... and I've not really got enough into many others to really know.

For me it has to be:
- The Division Bell
- Momentry Lapse of Reason
- Wish you were Here
- Dark Side of the Moon
- Obscured by Clouds
- The Wall

Those first four were very hard to put in a set order for me, my favourite changes with my mood. Not only are all of these albums the best ever written (for me anyway) but all have great memories associated with them. For example, a few summers back in the sun driving down Langdale valley in the Lake District with Dad in his Z4 with the roof down and the Division Bell on full volume.

I'm curious. I don't know many other my age who listen to much older music at all. Any other 20ish Floyd fans on here?

no "singles"

Now, if only my flat-mate understood the principle that is the "concept album".

I'm 24 and most of my [s]friends[/s] male friends like Floyd. As do I.

For me, it's probably WYWH or Dark Side though, admittedly, I'm not intimately familiar with their complete back catalogue. I like bits of The Wall, though the children singing in Another Brick....part 2 really grates on me.

I'm going with Atom Heart Mother. That was the one that got me properly into the Floyd I think.

Thanks for reminding me of 'Relics', some nice songs on that. Must digitise my cassette collection if it hasn't all corroded to dust.

just came across this (random US Bike shop - no idea if any good *)

http://www.ebay.com/itm/PRIMAL-WEAR-PINK-FLOYD-DARK-SIDE-OF-THE-MOON-MENS-BICYCLE-CYCLING-JERSEY-SMALL-/290869710764?pt=US_Men_s_Athletic_Apparel&hash=item43b92f8fac

30+ years ago i airbrushed the dark side of the moon album cover on my bedroom wall - haven't listened to stuff like Meddle or Atom Heart for years, someone (and i know who!) stole my Syd Barrett Madcap Laughs - Dark Side get my vote as being consistent rather than hit and miss

*apologies if easily available

Is it OK to like Pink Floyd but not have a favourite? I'm certainly of that era (I think I paid 37/6 for Umma Gumma when it came out)

Astromine Domine came up on my playlist the other day. (Pulse version). It was fab.

Why not? Meddle was the first Floyd album I discovered, DSOTM quickly became my favourite, followed by WYWH.
I was never so taken with Animals, and the Wall I listened to once, and really disliked it.
Relics I always really enjoyed, but I was really pissed when the CD version of an album that sold for .99p, was going for £10.99! I borrowed a library copy and ripped it, damned if I'm paying £10 more for something that was intended to be sold really cheaply.
