He's 2 in a couple of days.
Inform him that it's bath\wash time.
Take upstairs.
Listen to the protests that he wants to play.
Pick up, show water/bath.
Wash.
Dry.
Laugh as he shouts "MUMMY MILK" (he still loves his milk)
Read story (I love the gruffalo, he has a jamaican accent didn't you know?).
Put in bed and leave.
10 minutes if wash, 15-20 if bath.

Once teeth are brushed, PJs are on, stories are read, goodnight kisses given, and they are safely tucked up in bed, providing they're weaned, they get left. If that means they cry themselves to sleep, so be it.

If they're in a proper bed (not a cot), and can get out easily, either my wife or I will sit outside the door reading a book so that when they mischievously get out of their beds, they get told off immediately.

This last phase normally lasts a few months before the child will just give up and stay in bed.

7pm upstairs, pj's on, teeth brushed, story then an episode of peppa pig takes us through to 7.30ish. Then there's about an hour of her shouting from the top of the stairs for random stuff we've already asked if she wanted

Upstairs before 7, teeth and then three books if he has been good, if he messes about he loses books. Always asleep by 7.30

We do not let him watch TV 2hrs before bed, read it makes it harder for them to sleep

Upstairs for brushing teeth and PJs. Then an episode of Baby Jake with milk. Wave night night to everyone. Bed. As said above, routine is king.

Routine.

At that age Cbeebs to 6:30. Bath, book and sleep for 7pm never had any issues

6.30 bath, potty, teeth.

6.50 ish bed, two books.

Normally settled by 7.15.

As above, routine is the key. Somewhat mucked up in our house since #2 arrived but just started getting back to normality now after months sleepless nights

Our oldest has had the same routine since tiny, now 4. The youngest at 1.5 has same but he's complicated the process.

CBeebies till about 6.50, then bath, then drying, pyjamas, milk, stories, bed. Done by 7.30.

Ours is 15 months old and the routine is:

Watch In the Night Garden and sing song at end of CBeebies
Bath and brush teeth
Read a book (usually Gruffalo or the Snail and the Whale)
Bed

Usually finished and asleep by 19.45

At about 6 months old we shifted bed time to a bit later so she sleeps past 06.00 but have kept the same routine since which has worked a treat.

Thanks for the replies, here's where I am and why I'm asking.

I'm home at 6:15, play to 6:45-7, bath or watch beebies to 7:30 while getting ready for bed, 1 story out of bed, 2 in bed, 7:50 told to close his eyes, asleep by 8.

It seems to work pretty well but I'm concerned it's a bit late to be going to be bed and there's always room for improvement.

We try and get ours in bed a bit earlier, certainly did at that age, but as long as you stick to a routine I think your doing fine

I'm surprised by how many have their kids watching TV so close to bedtime, when its a common fact its disruptive to sleep?

Anyway: for both 3yo & 6yo

6:30 for upstairs, change in to PJ's, brush teeth, aim to be in room reading a book or two until 7:15 then its lights out, tucked in and bed.

At 7pm Me and Mrs K split duty and take turns for one of us to read a story with our 6yo while the 3yo is going off, at 7:30 he's then allowed to read / play with lego until bedtime - which is stipulated by us as usually between 7:40-8pm and used for teliing-the-time education and self-discipline - he loses 5 mins of the playtime the next day if he's not in bed on time.

As above, routine is key.

Tv doesn't seem to make any difference whatsoever to mine (2&5)

About 6:30, quick bath, pj's read book, milk and asleep. Sometimes they ask for more milk a bit later (normally the 2 yr old one) which he always gets. Always asleep by 8:00, almost always sleep until 7:30, although this has become 8:30 over Christmas, tomorrow's going to bite quite hard!

Bath every other night unless dirty. Pj's on at 8:30. Stories then asleep at 9. Sleeps through till 7 (10 hours sleep) which is ideal as neither my wife nor me are morning people. 5 year old daughter has same routine but sleeps till 7:45.

If he's had a nap in the day its something like

6.30 bath
6.50 pjs
7.00 try and brush teeth
7.15 start stories
8.30 give up and take him downstairs
9.45 try again with some stories

Without a nap its over by 7.30

I've banned naps but if we drive somewhere at the wrong time...!

😀

In our house he talks like

and the little old lady in "A Squash and a Squeeze" sounds like

Back to the OP. We had bath, story and bed all done in about 45 minutes by about 8:00 ish. Earlier if they were annoying us.

No bath for ours - my sis did this and found it diff to get the kids to bed if they couldnt get one - they usually shower with us in the morning at that age

Shut him in the cupboard..1min
Lock it...10secs
Head phones on..10sec..

Got it down to a pretty quick time...used to take a while pushing him in but now he accepts his lot....

(Anyone feel a little queasy thinking I may just be telling the truth...)

We've got two of these, can't go ANYWWHERE car or pushchair past 13:00 if you want them in bed before 9pm. They dont need much sleep and any in the day brought on through vehicular movement is taken from the previous dark peacetime.

😐
