I'm not sure, but I think the consensus opinion is that he's basically a tool.

He began his F1 career in the best car, Had a great start, a fair chunk of luck to win the WC, and now think's he's automatically as great as Ayrton Senna. Just a bit too arrogant and has an over-inflated sense of his own importance.

He's now finding out what it's like to really have to work for it, and have a team-mate who has rightfully deposed him as 'team leader'.

He is undoubtedly incredibly talented, but I think he expects things to come to him too much.

I hope he can mature quickly, settle down and show the World what a brilliant driver we know he can be.

He's had a bad season by his standards, and needs to step back and chill a bit more. Let things develop naturally, rather than always trying to force them.

And he needs to stop thinking he's right when everyone else knows he's wrong...

His last race, he was brilliant in keeping Webber behind him. Showed patience and cool-headedness, yet could still turn it on when he had to, when Webber passed him.

And lastly, he needs to accept there are at least three or four other drivers who are just as good as him, on the track.

Or one of the quickest guys out there on a single lap in any car? But a guy who's made some mistakes this year which have snowballed thanks to the media and unfortunate repetition of the person you made a mistake with. Plus it looks like some other crap in his private life. All of which means he's not a happy chappy right now and needs to sort himself out before he can really be at his best again.

I'd love to see him going toe to toe with FingaBoi and Alonso next year. Or half of next year anyway as I ain't paying for Sky!

😀

Forget him anyway. This year's WC is Sebastian Vettel, who has bin a class above all season. That he has won what, nine, ten races is it, to Webber's NONE, shows just how good he is, to be able to consistently get the best out of the car. Plus, he's enjoying it so much, for him it just seems so easy.

Gotta feel sorry for Webber. Undoubtedly a very talented driver, but to be in the shadow of your much younger team-mate, by such an astonishing margin, well, I don't think I could cope with that quite frankly. Think I'd go and try my hand at another form of motorsport tbh.

For me, Button and Alonso have bin the best of the rest. Button has quietly worked his way to team leader, got the car working how he wants it, and although he might not quite have LH's outright speed, has shown he has a truly great racing brain. He's not moaned or whinged, he's just got on with it. And proved he's more than a match for Lewis. He's gone way up in my estimation, and imo is a good bit better than when he won his WC.

Alonso has taken a relatively poor car and dragged himself right up there. Must obviously be frustrated, but he's remained realistic and done the best job with the tools he's had available. He's matured too, and given a decent competitive car, can be relied upon to produce good results. Remains comitted even when he says he's 'giving up'. 🙂

Of the others; Rosberg needs to be able to show what he can do in a competitive car. Red Bull would be wise to be thinking about future options with him in mind. DiResta looks the biz; let's hope he can get a decent car in the not too distant future. Few other younger ones showing a lot of promise too.

Schuey, Barrichelo and one or two others should step aside and let some fresh young blood come into the sport. They've had their time, Schuey especially should aknowledge this.

S'all good fun though. Looking forward to next season already! 😀

He's very good indeed though, just a bit fragile

He may well have started his F1 career in a great car which helped no end but it's worth remembering that he was on the podium in his first ever F1 race and he managed to beat nando [the previous year's world champ] in the world championship in the same car

I used to quite like him, but he seems to ne quite jumped up now & very eager to whinge & moan when things don't go his way.
Some of his overtakes this season where he ends up ploughing into someone else have looked distinctly rookie...

It's a shame, 'cos when he's got the bit between his teeth he is very impressive to watch.

He's not a dick. He's a 25 year old kid who is still growing up despite all the money and success he's had.

In ten years time he'll look back at his early 20's and cringe. Like we all did.

He's not a dick.

No, in all fairness, he is actually quite a dick. Lying over the overtake thing at Melbourne, being an arse and wheelspinning on public roads, causing several avoidable crashes, throwing his toys out of the pram repeatedly when things aren't going his way, having a pop at his team for various reasons which weren't their fault, publicly whinging about them when they did make the odd mistake, blaming everyone else for his mistakes, pretending to be Ali G, to mention just a few.

But most of all, and completely and utterly inexcusable; developing a really stupid faux Merkin accent after hanging around with that Pussy Doll for just five minutes, and forgetting he's actually from Stevenage. Good God that's so cringeworthy. 😳

He's just going through the fact he has to drive a Merc on the road as well as on the track.

No one gets over that in a hurry.

Jumped up brat with a strange accent

early footage from when he was a kid suggests his accent was a bit "street" so no doubt maclaren put him through elocution lessons while they were grooming him, hence the bizarre accent

It'll be an interesting 2012 season that's for sure and I agree with the above re his arrogance etc. but isn't that an essential ingredient in formula one?
I do find the comment below somewhat incomprehensible and have added a little pic of Ms Scherzinger to see if my eyes are deceiving me and others are of the same opinion 😯

has he just changed following that rather gruesome accident and lost his edge or has he had his fight knocked out of him by Ferrari?

TBH - I reckon a bit of both

I seem to remember a you Brazilian driver making quite a few avoidable mistakes in his early F1 racing career, pushing too hard when he should have been playing the long game. He was also accused of being too aggressive...now what was his name??

Amazingly talented and in the wilderness at the moment. Even when he's having a bad race weekend he's flashing the talent that he holds.

His team mate? This'll be the one that's been in F1 for how long again?

He showed up a twice world champ in his first season. **** the bollocks about knowinhg the car. He was a rookie in a mans world stuffing a champ in identical machinery. He's got Schu's pace, JPM's agression/thrust and he's going through a purple patch. When he won in 08 I grabbed a bottle of champagne and sprayed the living room, our dog and missushora. 😀

Ah, that'll be the two time WC that threatened to expose the cheating going on at McLaren, and who then had to inexplicably struggle to find the same pace of his less-experienced team-mate, then.... 😉

Come on. After that debacle, Ron Dennis effectively turned his back on Alonso. "We weren't racing Kimi, we were basically racing Fernando." Had he supported both his drivers equally, No doubt Alonso wooduv bin World Champion. As it turned out, he still finished equal on points to Uncle Ron's favourite boy, who stuffed up his Big Chance in the final race...

Hamilton then won his WC through a stroke of luck, when Glock slid off.

Notice how Hamilton's slide downhill has coincided with RD's move away from being in charge of the racing (following more attempts at cheating)? As well as his split with his dad as his manager. Seems like Lewis needs a lot more support than other drivers.

he's going through a purple patch

If you want to be taken at least slightly seriously, then try to learn what the expressions you use actually mean. 😉

Pushing the limit too hard as hes not in the best car at the moment.... Therefore making mistakes... Even vettel makes mistakes when pushed...see canada last lap.

Button however has outclassed him this season. Call it maturity!

Bit ambivalent about Hamilton but Elf you can say that Vettel is in the best car and regarded as the number 1 driver in that team. I am amazed that Webber hasn't jumped ship but where would he go.

Ferrari 2010

If Hamilton stopped sucking on his drinking straw in the post race interview, his image would change immediately. Makes him look too arrogant.

Maybe change it for a briar pipe?

Button was always regarded as a playboy, what with all the parties and shaggin. He grew up, and has now snuggled nicely in a team where all the received wisdom was that it was 'Lewis' team'

Lewis will grow up too. He did show up Alonso, who, despite the blind defence above has been smack in the middle of the two biggest cheating scandals in recent F1.

Lewis has talent, he will get back in the groove. And he is a scrapper. Schu just waited for the pitstops to get past other drivers. Boring.

Maybe next year without the blown diffusers Red Bull won't be as dominant. I'd rather have 4 drivers with a chance of the WDC at the last race.

'Blind defence'; yeah, right. 😆 Just stating facts. Ron Dennis favoured Lewis over Fernando, that was patently obvious. Alonso was brought in because of his expertise and knowledge of how to develop a race-winning car. Don't forget this is a driver who twice beat Schuey to the WC, when Schuey was still great. RD's plan was to deliver a British WC, his protege. Which he did, eventually. A demoralised Alonso was still good enough, however, to finish equal on points to Lewis. Had Alonso bin in Lewis' position in the last race of 2007, he'duv bin EWC. Lewis messed it up, he had it in his grasp and lost it.

has been smack in the middle of the two biggest cheating scandals in recent F1.

And guess what? Not bin charged with or found guilty of owt. 😐 Try harder.

Love the blind adoration of Hamilton here though; makes it even more fun when Lewis once again stuffs it up. 😆 Trying to barge yer own team mate off the track ffs... 🙄

Lewis has talent, he will get back in the groove

What if he does not in any way, though?

of course nando had to resort to physically stopping Hamilton from doing laps in qualifying to get ahead of him on the grid

In Singapore, I really can't believe he sat in his morning briefing and didn't question at all the strategy of only fueling for 12 laps
why, they'd have to rely on a safety car between lap 13 & 15 for that to have any chance of success 🙄
at best, Renault either robbed Rosberg of his first win or took it off Masse, depending on which way you want to look at it
at worst nando knew what was going on too

he really is unlucky to constantly find himself surrounded by cheats all the time whilst trying to play it straight himself 😆

Ah come on change the record.. 🙄

Alonso's done brilliantly to get himself right up there with a clearly inferior car to the RBs and McLarens. Yet instead of throwing his toys out like Hammo, he's quietly getting on with it and making the most of what he's got. And so has Button. And lo and behold, they're both higher in the standings than Lewis.

Next year is Hamos year.

Unless of course it's Vettel's, or Alonso's, or Button's....

Thing is though, why isn't anyone going on about just how good Jensonbutton.com has bin this season? Came in as number two to Hammo, effectively, yet is now the team leader on merit. His drive in Canada was superb. One of the best drives in years, that.

Instead, all some folk can do is bleat on about Hamilton....

I did when he joined mcl but most here thought I was mad
for me, he's given us more exciting racing this year than any of the other top runners

even in his wc year there was some really great stuff eg Brazil from 14th on the grid

I did. It just didn't register with you. Button has been slick, professional, and fast. And he signed my lads hat and shirt in Manchester.

Not bin charged with or found guilty of owt.
Which is not the same as innocent. Alonso attempted to blackmail Ron Dennis with details of the misdeeds at McLaren. RD went straight to the FIA with it and came clean. The Spaniard was lucky to see the rest of the season out after that. Poor sportsman; cheat; rubbish team-mate.

I'm not defending Lewis, he's done stupid things. Not the same as being no good, though is it? Massa has made things worse with his toy throwing.

He'll bounce back.

On a related note, Rosberg will never make it. Same as Heidfeld.

I'd like Senna to come good. I'm not sure he can be a Barrichello, never mind a Senna. What a name to live up to!

Erm, I think you'll find it is. Unless of course you can prove that Alonso was charged and found guilty of any offence, as the McLaren team were. Like the way you conveniently leave out Hammo in this, as though he din't know what was going on as well. 😆

Anyway, Alonso has matured and moved on. Take heed...

If Ferrari can get their act together, and Red Bull's advantage is cut, we should see some proper exciting stuff next season. I wonder if Hammo really can mature quickly enough to settle down and just be a good driver; he needs to or he'll have another frustrating year ahead of him. I agree with Jackie Stewart I think it was, who said that Hammo won his WC too early. He had everything perfectly laid out for him, he din't have to really work his way up in F1 like other drivers have. He started in the best car on the grid, so hasn't had the experience of being down the field in a slower uncompetititve car. Vettel, remember, won in a Torro Rosso. Ayrton Senna almost won in Monaco in a Toleman. For Hamilton, things have gone backwards since his WC. That must be difficult to deal with.
