I'm making a table for my van and want to stick some vinyl stuff on it so it's non slip(ish). Does any one know what this sort of stuff is called or recommend anything else? My Google foo is failing me at the moment...

Look up phenolic ply. Probably made with that.

Not so sure you can buy it as a stick on, comes as phenolic ply wood which is pre applied pvc stuff.

Ah right cheers, trying to keep.as cheap as possible. Thought it might come on a roll or something.

I'll have a look at that ply, but bet it's not cheap.

It's Wisa Hexa, available from Lathams.

3m Dinoc might have something as well but, again, not cheap.  Good laminates rarely are.

so it’s non slip(ish).

Phenolic is  super slippy. It's intended as flooring and the hex pattern gives a little bit of grip to something like a shoe (ie something soft and rubbery) . But the phenolic resin is very hard and very slick and the texture just mean other hard objects have barely any points of contact  so most things just slide about on it

(I have lots of offcuts of it and had a notion to make a sort of airhockey table out of them because the phonolic slide across other bits of phenolic so well)

If you want to apply something non slip to an existing surface then you maybe want something like textured rubber flooring

Found this stuff on Amazon, drawer/shelf liner but comes in 3m lengths for £8. Reckon that'll do the job. The table is only 300mm x 400mm, although I might make a second larger top as well.

Or this on eBay, rubber flooring. I did the bathroom floor in this stuff in my last house!

Just fit metal spikes to everything you want to put on that table.

This is the kind of sticky stuff to line toolbox drawers, or put on table tops.

Coin rubber sheeting or coin anti slip gets you into the world of dotty rubber stuff for tables and flooring

I'll add, I've ordered a big roll of 3mm herringbone patterned rubber matting to protect the floor and boot carpet of my new van. You could glue something like that on and use a rubber edging to finish.

I'm wondering if there's such as thing as a table that's too grippy? Put a wine glass down a bit off, or adjust your plate into the stem by accident?  I'd rather the base slid a bit than gripped and tipped?

I would have thought that any pattern on a table top would make it a complete PITA to clean!

(Yachts don't use them and they move about way more)

Reminds me of a Marc Radcliff story about being on the road with Frank sidebottom and attempting to play travel snooker in the back of a Ford Transit while they drove between gigs. Basically a normal snooker table set up in the back.

Our table and side in the van are only used when stationary. On the move everything is packed away in its appropriate cupboard or cubby. The table and side are 'slippery' and I am not sure I would want sticky or not easy to clean...? Our van storage is all lined with rubber draw liner or rubber matting, and we use squares of it between crockery etc. Our van is silent on the move.

Maybe worth considering?

Thanks all. Yeah I'm not bothered about it being slippy or grippy when stationary, and I am bothered about being able to clean it though so originally discounted the drawer liner stuff with holes in it.

Basically its a table that will bolt into the floor rails and be in use while moving, whilst i'm not expecting people to be able to balance wine glasses on it while I'm driving round the nurburgring, it'd be nice for the kids to be able to place something on it (phone or power bank or something...) and it not be sliding all over the place. The table top will have cup holders set into it so they can shove a can or bottle in there. I don't think we'll be eating dinner off it regularly, but wipe clean would be nice.

I'm going to give this stuff below on ebay a go and see how it goes. I've got most of the bits to build it already laying around in the garage, just need the cup holders £6.50 for 2 on ebay and some non slip stuff if possible.

This does not go with this:

I don’t think we’ll be eating dinner off it regularly, but wipe clean would be nice.

Personally I think it will not live up to your expectations - there's a reason why tables are [probably] always smooth.

The table top will have cup holders set into it so they can shove a can or bottle in there.

...... or their phones/powerbank, etc.  I'd start with this and then add the non-slip stuff afterwards if you really feel the need.

Your probably right and I'm over thinking it. I'm going to put 4 cup holders in and theres only 2 of them in the back so they can fill the other 2 with sweet wrappers and bits of old food!....

Just don't wipe it.

After a couple of weeks... Non slip.
