Spotted this while walking on the Malverns yesterday

[img] [/img]

It's just NE of the summit of Black Hill http://binged.it/1LEK6ze

To put it in context, this photo is looking South, with Black Hill summit just to the right and the fence for the quarry on the left.

The lettering says "MUDC" - there don't appear to be any more letters further down the post.

Have been within a few yards of this dozens of times, can't believe I've never noticed it before, but then I'm usually moving faster.

Man Up, Danger Coming?
There's a lovely bit of 'off-piste' just down from there 😉

Well it's a nice throwback to earlier times setting boundaries meant cast iron sunken posts.

Be good fun to follow them, if they're still there of course...

On a vaguely related subject, is there anywhere other than here to discuss doing stupid things on the hills? I got to there via the quarry! Another thing I'd never have had time to think about doing if I'd been moving faster as I usually do. Wish I'd had Strava running - will have to go back and do it again another time...

there used to be some DH tracks in the woods to the west of the ridge abov eth quarry. iirc the conservators threw some fences up across them but that may have been dealt with by now.

No idea bout the meaning of the lollypop stick but they're nice things of a different age.

Sorry, but it's clayerly a mudometer - they were very common in that region in the middle ages.
That one must be reading at about 2 ft.

Presumably the bottom bit of the O has been eaten by slugs
