Son and partner to start renting and both work from home so need BB. They get keys tomorrow.
Based in Medway, Kent if relevant?
As per their generation, they don't want tv though they might have to have a landline of course.
They can have Virgin (rock solid for me for years and years) or go plusnet etc.
Question is, what's the lead time to install?
Thanks guys.
We've just had 4 new ones around Crawely in rentals, 12-16 days wait from order, regardless of wether there is a line or not.
If you want fancy new fibre to the house then its 6weeks.
Pro tip if you want fibre but need to get on line fast, we did this on two of the houses which have more occupants.
Order the fastest install - probably Talk Talk, they have a 60 day no quibble guarantee. On the next day order fibre to the house (We used BT, and got a good deal as we were 'moving' from TT).
BT will fix your appt for 6-8 weeks away and after 3-4 weeks they tell TT they are taking over that line.
This activates the 60 day guarantee thing and TT allows you to just pay until the last day.
So then you get reasonable internet for 6-8 weeks and then superduper BT fibre to the house a bit later.
Well it worked for us, as advised by a BT installs guy who is one of our tenants and wanted Fibre to the house.
My PhD student moved 3 weeks ago and has been working off his phone 4G. He gets fibre today (don’t know the supplier).
14 days for us with virgin media.
I ordered Plusnet on 25th February to replace the Virgin cable. I've yet to get a date for installation. Communication from them has been non-existent or unintelligible, they've cancelled my order once without explanation. And this is allegedly the supplier with the best customer service? I'm starting to think sticking with Virgin might be the better option.
We switched recently, 14 days.
BT Fibre to the premises, order placed 30th Jan, install booked for 22nd April.
They did run the external cables a couple of weeks ago mind. I assume the delay is purely due to BT not wanting to go into houses unless they absolutely have to until after 29th March.
I believe the minimum time to supply the service is normally tied in with the cooling off period for the contract so it'll generally be at least 14 days from acceptance of the order. IME it's always been 14 days or very close to it but that's been for change of supplier to an existing service, I guess new services may be more complicated.
14 days for us when we moved house this year.
Surely it depends on what's there previously. For virgin in this house was a couple of days. Basically when the equipment could be delivered after completing. DSL in the old house was similar. Phone line was there so off you go.

Plusnet used to be excellent - went downhill rapidly after being bought by BT a few years ago now.
I'd give Plusnet a big swerve maybe great 7 years ago , great offers if your a new customer but if your an existing user treat you like crap. Extra charges when you leave, premium number to call and put on hold for ages. Look on trust pilot to get an idea of how bad
