A bit confused tbh with the differences, my daughter wants something for gcse work writing documents and A bit of wireless net stuff. What's best and where to buy reconditioned stuff ? Prefer less than 200 notes to be honest . Am I asking too much lol. Thanks
They're all 'laptops' (as opposed to desktops).
A notebook is, arguably, a smallish laptop, though TBH the term is used fairly interchangeably with laptop. There's no specific definition that I'm aware of.
A netbook is, specifically, a small laptop, no larger that 12" screen, 1Gb of RAM and restrictions on CPU and HDD that I can't remember without looking it up.
CHEers mate
I got a great little packard bell netbook for £130 from laptops direct a couple of months ago. They do a range of products from new to refurb'd and everything in between. So far I've found it more than adequate for working with documents and using the internet. They delivered quickly too. It was better than I expected actually 🙂
If she is doing a lot of typing the screens may be a little small. However many of the netbooks also have an external monitor out so you could always pick up a second hand monitor for cheap if she has trouble while working for prolonged periods on the small screen.
i have a samsung netbook. you cannot put discs in it.
so when i want to print from our wireless printer i have to use my sons laptop, as i couldnt use the printer set up disc on my netbook.
that is the only difference i notice.
there is probably a way to do it without the disc, but i dont know how 🙁
Laptop = generic term for every portable flip top PC
Notebook = term originally developed for A4 paper size footprint version but still full blown powerful PC
Netbook = generally smaller than notebook and designed for t'interweb with low processor/graphics power, lower spec and cheaper than the above inc sometimes proprietary linux based OS.
you cannot put discs in it.
You can plug in an external optical drive though.

Download it from the Internet.
I don't think I've used a 'set up disc' for a device in about ten years.

Apart from just downloading from the net, you can also share the CD/DVD drive from your sons laptop across the network so your netbook can see it. I'm typing on what some might describe as a Netbook as it's got that form factor, but it's really more a Notebook (or a thin and light laptop) as it's a lot more powerful than your typical Atom powered thing. No optical drive, so I share the one from my print server desktop across the network for whenever I want to install S/W, works just fine.

But I do have a fantastic array of coasters!
Thanks for the info on my post guys
