Lots of digital pics of the boys growing up that I'd like to print out for ageing parents who are definitely analogue models - is there a good one that can print lots of pics at a reasonable cost or is it better to send them to a print company?
IMHO home printing is best for quick convenience or Ultimate quality. Its rarely cheap. Printers that are cheap are like your local dealers first crack pipe offer. Its supplies that are expensive and where the make the real money
Some one on here did recommend a cheap online printers but the name escapes me
But in my opinion its all about photo books now. I use Blurb. about £40 for a hard back book with 120 8 by 10 inch pages. Even if you can't be bothered to lay it out I'd rather have an autofill book than a pile of photos.
This is my first Blurb book
If you still want to print yourself this is huge but has been cheap to run..

Oh I think I have the older model...
getting large volumes printed at home can be very expensive. sending them off to somewhere like DSCL is quite cheap even for large sizes.
I used to print a lot at home using quite a few different papers (I used to talk at photoclubs on printing) but generally not bog standard gloss. I've still got an Epson R2400 with a fotospeed CIS so ink cost wasn't a huge issue given how much I used to print.
