Hello everybody, I'm here with Art Malik and we were just wondering how things are going.

I kept to my resolution for last year of keeping off the STW so figure I'd drop by to see how things have been.

Anything new or is it still the same old bear pit?

Pretty much the same.
We haven't even answered the Stupid Headset Question yet.
Oh, and TJ's gone.
And Footflaps has the builders in...

The wallpapers been replaced and the aertex is off the ceiling, some new walls have been built and a new heating system too that requires cutting trees down. It’s been drafty of late, but earlier in the spring it was too windy and blustery for some so they had to be told to go play somewhere else. They’ve tried sneaking in through the unlocked door round back but have gotten no further than the utility room where all the bikes are stored. A few of us have been riding, some have even bought new tyres, some even changed to big wheels but the overall feeling is one of Fat, Fat Bikes. Oh, and lots of Whiskey has been drunk and far too much Cheese.
And if you haven’t noticed it’s been raining an awful lot, both outside and indoors.

Well, this is a new development!

Actually, I was close enough for me, but thanks for your involvement. Sorry if you feel let down! Nice to meet you (again?).

What do you mean TJ is gone? Gone like dead or gone like moved on with his life?

And who was that other guy i used to argue with? He was fun too.

Someone is taking the internet a bit too serioulsy. Well done though, everyone needs something to make them feel proud.

Orange jumpsuit. Too "socialist" for these parts.
The void filled by a load of newly brave right-wing winkers. 😉

I've missed this, a bit. No, STW was a bit of a time sink. I didn't use it a great deal, but it was a natural 'go to' in downtime. So I spent a year planning better, and minimising my downtime. 2 promotions and 2 job shifts later, I'm further up the same greasy pole, weighing 2 stone less, married, with a child and generally being happy and healthy. I don't think you're right that everyone needs something to make them feel proud, a few of those things are a few of the things which make me feel content, and for now that's enough.

You mean you don't take the internet seriously? Is it just some frivolous toy to you? A way of idling? That is a shame if so. The internet is a serious thing it is used for all kinds of important work, communication, collaboration and learning. I don't think it is possible to take the internet too seriously. It's a good thing and it will probably catch on. I suggest you take it seriously as well.

Did he jump or was he pushed?

All because you didn't participate in an internet forum, that impressive!

Well, correlation and causation are difficult to separate. But I think it's partially because i made more productive use of my 'spare' time.

Now, I'm not trying to be fighty, but are you going to be as argumentative as before?

Qui? Moi?

I did think about this, I saw that if I made the effort to agree with you more often, it would only result is us both being wrong more regularly and there seemed little benefit in this.

Depends really, some of the fightiness was a reaction to people posting ill-considered comments and then refusing to see that they might be just rude or wrong. But to be honest, I can't see myself coming back here too much. A quick read around seems to indicate a rather different atmosphere here than a year ago, maybe just regular turnover, maybe just a symptom of the increased stress and hardship which has affected peoples lives over the last year.

I'm not particularly bothered whether you agree with me or not CM. It's just that quite a few of your contributions were merely picking others' points apart (more often than not, needlessly, and not just reacting to ill-considered comments) and derailing discussions. I guess you thought you were providing some kind of forum service.

Anyway, welcome back for however long you choose to stay this time. 🙂

As for TeeJ, he was pushed, after being constantly wound up by right wing trolls like don simon (who has also been banned for life... 😉 ), Zulu-Eleven and others who I can't remember. He lost the run of himself and got the bullet. Also on the end of a lifetime ban was TSY (Yeti) after a dossier was presented to ze modz.

Apparently, after some of the bannings, premier subscription sign-ups went up quite a bit, as did site visits.

And finally, the mods had a great idea where they categorise us all privately, but asked publicly for suggestions of those categories. It was a time when STW was at its finest.

But it's all quietened down now.

Well, I never did this deliberately, I agree i picked other people's points apart. I guess where we differ is on the 'needlessly'. I imagine everyone is on a spectrum in this regard. However, I will try to chose my fights carefully and try not to get pulled into silly arguments.

I recognise some of those names, but don't really remember their politics. I guess fora always have a turnover, and the character of them change accordingly. Seems to be more mod involvement now though. Both in discussions and in policing, how has that worked out? Actually, on reflection, it's not more mods, it's all the same mod.

You know what it is? The humour is gone from this forum. Is this really due to a few folks walking out?

Well I like Charlie and have missed him 🙂

Tj wasn banned for being unable to abound a bitter acrimonious row and the mods did not want their site spammed with such things, what with it being an advertisement for their mag and all, which is entirely fair imo.

The tone of debate has definitely improved I think.

Still lits of humour around I reckon, may be lacking on this thread due to CM's apparent reputation, I dunno!

Anyway, please stay 🙂
