What's in my loft insulation?

Just been up in the loft; insulation is fibreglass rolls, laid about 2 years ago. I'm up there every few months to check on the roof hatch etc; this time I went up and saw veins of red powdery stuff in the middle of the insulation. It powders away in your fingers (where fibreglass kinda rolls like wool), rust red colour on the edges and into the middle of certain bits of the insulation.

Any suggestions of what it might be? One Reddit result suggests it could be some sort of mould, but can't find much else.

Is it just a case of pulling the affected roll out and keep an eye on the rest??

Glass wool can get damp and then mould forms, email a manufacturer with a photo? technical.stirling@etexgroup.com

Look for any leaks, condensation from water tanks, pipes, etc. and deal with them while you wait for a reply.

Can you check the humidity up there? something like this records the min and max of the previous 24 hrs, so you could poke your head up to read it over the course of a few days or whetever, and is a handy thing to have anyway.

Was also going to say, if there is no obvious source of moisture and your humidity is too high, it. Might just be a case of improving Airflow /ventilation a teeny bit to bring the average humidity down a few notches.

That's assuming your red stuff is some sort of mould /fungi.
